February

Almost upon us. January is a long month at the best of times, and this year has been longer than ever, for obvious reasons. What are we all doing next month to cheer ourselves up?

I'm toying with the idea of doing a wee socially distanced outdoors singalong for our street. What have you got planned?

Going to try and force myself to go fishing but my mind and my worry won’t be too far away from work. February is always a grim month but people are obviously struggling even more, southern rail have had 3 people jump in front of trains in the last 4 days 😞

Primarily I'm hoping for a steady decline in hospitalisation and deaths (I'm a little less concerned about active cases). Hopefully a few restrictions dropped, outdoor stuff (beer gardens!) and gyms etc. maybe being allowed to open in some areas.

Me personally month offshore in the Qatari sunshine, after waiting in hotels for three weeks. Hopefully back in blightly for the first week in March, it's my sons birthday the week after, so fingers crossed.

Oh, and no major changes to the quarantine rules/periods for international arrivals too hopefully!

Then some brighter weather in March and getting out on the MTB and walking the dog along the coast.

I hate being cooped up over winter. Gets me down every year, I'm enjoying the sunshine out of the window here.

More exercise, reading instead of going on electronic devices, long awaited scrapbooks for holidays. Yes, I’m going to do some scrapbooking!

You in Doha mate? Fond memories of doing a fortnight there in the poshest hotel imaginable!

Yes Harry, in the Doubletree Hilton in old town, allocated by the company otherwise I'd be topping up my points in the Crowne Plaza!

Hopefully get a few nights in there on the return journey as I'll have to do a PCR and wait for the all clear to fly back now.

If the quarantine rules change I might have a week here before returning if I'm going to be locked up in a hotel at LHR for ten days.

I set off to start work on the 11th January, not sure I could face another 10 days locked up without a week of breathing fresh air and being able to wonder about a bit.

My first wedding anniversary at the end of the month, wasn't how I was expecting or hoping the first year of marriage to go but we have both managed, survived and brought even closer by it, well, she hasn't strangled me yet, so it must be going well... :)

Not sure how to celebrate it, we had hoped for a trip away to some parts of Scandinavia but that might have to wait for next year.

hoping for some better weather in Feb, cycling has been hard in Dec and Jan, been difficult to motivate myself to get out in the cold, wet and dark alone. I have a coupe of bike projects refurbishing a couple of Italian steel frame bikes. I was fortunate to obtain lots of original parts from Europe before the additional charges kicked in but just waiting for the right time to take the frames to be resprayed by a bike shop. Feb is a good time as its the early signs of spring coming, bulbs sprouting in the garden, trees starting to get leaf buds, things starting to come back to life again - a good sign for the coming year.
PS its the Big garden birdwatch this weekend if anyone interested in logging with the RSPB.

I was unlucky in that I delayed ordering some wheels and parts from UK suppliers who have now stopped exporting to europe.

Yes its a shame about the ordering now, especially for smaller items. There are lots of fantastic outlets that specialise in old bike parts and the market is good. lots of them across Europe. I managed to get some campy brakes and levers to match the drivetrain from 1983 to finish my wish list. I am hopeful it will be ready for the next Eroica Britannia ride, but not sure if it will take place this year.
I visited this shop a few years ago if you are interested steel-vintage.com

February is one of my favourite months as the Six Nations begins. The start of the tournament is still freezing cold, but by the end Spring is almost upon us. A brilliant time of year.
