Favourite dog breed

We had a little Westie that we got when he was 18 months old and the best companion I have ever had.

We got him from a family in South Kensington due to the lad going off to college and none of the others wanting to walk him. From the moment I got him home he never walked on a lead other than near horses. For some reason he use to go scatty when he seen them.

I use to take him fishing to Sessay with me and he would just curl up in a ball and sleep under the tree. Every now again he would come and have a sniff at one of the fish I had caught.

I never thought I would get another dog but I fancy getting a blue Whippet when this is over.

I like greyhound lurcher types. You take them for a walk and then they go to sleep. My daughter has a beagle and it's like having a toddler. A toddler that chews rose trees, yelps when he bites on a thorn and then goes back to chewing the tree.

She had a pug before that. He would nip the back of the lurchers leg and then have to submit when the lurcher got annoyed. No sooner had the lurcher let him up and the pug would be back nipping his legs again. Brain the size of a walnut.

Boxer - we had 6 when I was a kid and they were all great (though unfortunately two became ill very early in life and we lost both before they were 5. The others were great, very protective with us as kids - wouldn't let anyone raise their hands near us.

My wife had always wanted a Golden Lab so we got one with our kids and she was an absolute beauty - we all cried when we lost her a few years ago at 15 - she was one of our kids, loved her to bits.

Golden retriever absolute gorgeous clever dogs. i have real dislike for little yappy terrior types like jack Russells

I know what you mean about losing them. When our dog went in was a difficult time for all of us - like losing a member of the family.

I remember one bonfire night, I was working in my shed when the fireworks started. Without thinking I started tidying away thinking I better get in for the dog before he gets frightened. I locked up and came into the house and on doing so, I remembered he’d been gone nearly two years. That really did impact on me.

Time to get another dog now. 👍

I like dogs but I,m not allowed a dog, wife doesn't like them.
I like bedlington terriers, lurches and Irish greyhounds.

If I did get a dog it would live in a kennel in the garden. I couldn't have a dog in the house, on the sofa or the bed. I think its dirty. I'll get stick for that but it's just how I feel. I think I have a little OCD or a phobia of the germs.

Does anybody else have an outside dog?
