I've just received a message saying that Father Peter Ryan has died. I don't have any more info than that, but it is sad news.

Father Ryan was a great guy, good craic and loved his golf. The majority of people from the TS6 area will know Father Ryan and will have attended a wedding or a funeral that he's officiated over.

Sad news.

Such a nice man. I remember him well, he used to live out back of my parents house in South Bank. Always had a smile and time for a chat with us local kids. Used to give us his old golf balls when we had none to go knock about over the school field. RIP

Yeah, he's seen a few off and always did with great dignity.

He had come out of retirement for a funeral I attended this time last year and the weather was similar to today. While he was waiting for the funeral car to arrive, he was amongst the lads having the craic and telling us to start dying in the summer.

Yes. He was also the last priest in the old Cathedral over the border in Sussex Street. He told us some funny stories of the characters who used to live around there years ago!

It really was. Fr Tom got that absolutely spot on. No one could have done a better job.

Sorry this thread has now drifted towards Peter Keeling, I didn't know Fr Ryan but I knew Fr Peter very well and he was one of the best men I have ever had the privilege of knowing, in a world where you can be anything, be kind - he was one of the kindest and best people I have ever known.
