I with others up to Danby yesterday to say farewell to a lifelong Boro fan who I have known for about 45 years. Simon Sheard died recently of pancreatic cancer and his burial took place at St Hildas Church in Danby yesterday.
Thankfully the rain held off for most of the afternoon except for a bit of drizzle during the service. As per Covid rules only 30 were allowed in the church but there must have been over a 100 there in total.

Big thanks to The Fox and Hounds his local who had not been open. They opened up especially for the funeral, erected tenting so everyone stayed warm and donate all the food and drink themselves. Nothing was paid for all day.

Our connection with Simon was Boro. Him being from up in the wilderness we all from Boro/Eston/Redcar. I first met him through a mate who was courting a girl from Castleton. He used to go to the games with Buck and Richard in the early days. Both dropped by the wayside of following Boro(although both are still healthy and at the funeral). Later replacements were drafted in for them such as Rob and Gareth. Simon being the one constant over the years. Strangely what I didnt know was he was born in Wakefield so suppose he was snatched from the jaws of Leeds.

Simon was also a big England fan and saw a lot of the world following the three Lions.

Not sure if he posted on here but he used to post on the old board where I think his user name was Albert. Or something else

Photo here is not a great scan but sure many will know him.
