FA Cup lost appeal?

I remember when the first Saturday in Jan for FA cup 3rd round was eagerly anticipated but the appeal seems to have gone.
Just looked at tickets now available and looks like I'll be on my own as all season card holders around me don't seem to be coming.

No expectation of winning cup, too expensive, opposition, TV over exposure, time of year, thinking nobody else going could all be factors?

Seems a shame after a sell out Boxing day game for next home game to be this way.

Not judging as anyone can do what they want, but just curious why so many people giving it a miss?

I’m not sure how bothered the club are.. emailed them over a week ago asking for details of hospitality packages for the Brighton game and I’m still waiting.. tried phoning yesterday but just kept getting an answerphone

I'll be there, always sit somewhere different during the cups, but I can't pretend I'm overly bothered by the match.

If we win, great, if we're out then it's onwards to Millwall.

Middling Premier League opposition, the only slight draw being that they might have a World Cup winner in their squad.

FA Cup lost it's appeal a lot of years ago.

When I was growing up, it was the biggest competition going. It was the most exciting and playing in it (at any level) was huge!

I looked forward to it all the time. I loved it.

Just the way football has gone, the Champions League, Europa League, Premier League have all become bigger competitions due to the money involved and how the media advertise it.

It also doesn't help the fact a lot of the bigger clubs field their 2nd string whilst prioritsing the Premier League and Champions League.

Still got its magic for me. Ticket bought even though I might not get there as it is a potential train strike day which might put a few off.

Those saying it's lost it's appeal, i don't think that was the case last season for the Man Utd, Spurs and Chelsea matches.
I agree however that a 3rd round tie seems less than perhaps it used to.

Its my birthday weekend and like to go with a few mates.
Just trying to buy General Sale on-line tickets and having bother with it. Stuck in a phone queue with Ticket Office to sort it out. Don't know why I bother 😞

The big money is the Premier League and money gets you the quality players.

Alos the gap between the top and bottom is bigger than in say 1981 so its harder to win the FAC for those outside the very big teams.

Not for me as I still think third round day has that magic about it. Not as much at it did but there’s still something unique about it.

Problem is when the so called bigger teams rotate for it which is sad to see.

The FA Cup was always an anticipated fixture no matter if it was non-league opposition, a local rival or one of the big boys. The cup attracted viewers across the world due to the excitement it would throw up and other leagues tried to emulate it.

Unfortunately, it was the interference of foreign managers (Wenger being one) stating we played too much football, and also allowing Man Utd to drop out one season that brought the demise of the competition.

Many of us on here have brilliant memories of the cup and who can ever forget our cup sagas against Everton and all the replays? Now games are finished on the day after the fourth round and it takes away the chance of lower clubs bringing a big boy back to a dodgy stadium on a cold winter's night.

The people who say they loved it killed it off.

I'm reluctantly giving it a miss. Another day of train strikes, which would mean another overnight stay for me in what's already been an incredibly expensive and inconvenient season. Got to draw the line somewhere.

I dont agree with not being able to pay the reduced admission charge on the day

Paying an extra fiver would certainly not persuade me to walk up or buy online on the day. Yes in theory you should know if you plan to go to the game in advance, but in the past weve had a mixture of 1st team and fringe players make up the team.

Its all about the opposition sadly and brighton doesnt rev me up to turn out on a cold january afternoon especially when theres probably a high chance the game will be chosen for international broadcast too so i can watch it from the comfort of my home through other means.

If we'd drawn someone like Hartlepool maybe with the local interest it would have generated and big away following may have got me out the house and to the Riverside, but im one of the many thousands who boycotted the Man Utd home game that season.

Years ago when we played Man City at Ayresome in both the league and FA Cup (31 years ago wow!) and beat them twice as the underdogs that was when the Cup had its magic. We even won at Hillsborough in the next round

If it is all about the opposition does that make you a Boro fan?
