Extraordinary post on the Sunderland forum

Can fully understand them thinking that way.

We're probably not making the play-offs, but they'll be in the same panic we were about relegation after the defeat to Stoke, so even those fans that genuinely do dislike us would choose their own safety.

No chance they will go down, same as us a few weeks ago. They have lost 6 on the bounce and got a caretaker in charge, natives obviously worried which direction the club are going in.

In all honesty, I never think about what Sunderland fans or any for that matter think about us, it was a derby in the 70s and 80s, now everyone has played it down so it’s not a derby,,,I’m fine with that, I’m also fine if their fans like us?

They don’t hate us like a lot of our fans would want to believe.

A lot of them wanted us to beat Coventry in the playoffs.
A lot of them pretend they are indifferent or want us to win but they are just going to extra lengths to "prove" they don't hate us and it's not a derby. The fact that we beat them the majority of their lives just means their faux indifference is how they cope with it. The amount of posts I see about them claiming it is not a derby whenever we play show that it is. They don't have those posts every week for the other teams they are indifferent about and their extra attendees, the trouble between fans etc all points to it being bigger than any other game.

Just because they don't see us as on a par with Newcastle it doesn't mean it isn't a derby.

Yeah I think the more Boro fans run after them pleading that is it’s a derby, gives them a feeling of importance and they can pat us on the head…there’s a good little boy Boro!!
Best just agreeing with them and we can all move on.

You never been to stadium of light then or our last home game or do they react like that for any game they draw then…

Of course they care look at the silly little dress up they do or do they do that for every team.

Don’t believe the crap they don’t care…. They do
Well with me working around the North East, the South Sunderland supporters seem to care..Spennymoor, Sedgefield,, Peterlee,…Sunderland itself always found them not to be so much?
Also recently both clubs in different divisions for long periods.
To be honest I don’t think we should care one way or the other either.

Yep, I agree…it’s time some Boro fans accept this and treat the game against them with indifference…like most of their fans do.
To be honest I don’t think we should care one way or the other either.

Yeah great. Could go one better and just not care about any matches? Or any sports? Or anything? We could win the prize for being the group of people that care the least about anything ever. Not that we'd be bothered about that of course.

You can separate them into 3 categories

- You've got those who say it's A derby, just not THE derby.

- Those who dislike Boro but pretend they don't because they think them saying so irritates us.

- Those who genuinely don't care.

I think those who genuinely don't care are in the minority. You only have to see the way their fans behave whenever they come to the Riverside to know that they clearly don't like us very much, and for every one poster on their board who says they don't care, there will always be another one calling us mutants.

At the same time, if we're honest the rivarly probably does mean that little bit more to us than it does to them, as they're Too preoccupied obsessing over Newcastle. The fact that hardly any of them post on here and yet there's quite a few Boro fans who post on their board is further evidence of this.

I think there's a category that tries not to care because their head to head record against us has been so poor in the last 50 years. Since the start of the 73/74 season it's 31 Boro wins to 13 for them, with 12 draws.

That's left some fairly deep scars on them, and some deal with it by telling themselves they don't care. Others are so accepting of defeat they maybe don't care anymore.

In doing that, they show they do really care.
