Boro are keen to sign him on loan for the season but the financial implications of such a move could be hard to overcome
A new report claims Burnley could be prepared to offer Ben Gibson to Nottingham Forest as part of a deal to sign defender Joe Worrall.

The former Middlesbrough skipper, who has also been linked with Norwich City, is currently looking to kick-start his career with a new club following two frustrating years with the Clarets.

Boro are keen to sign him on loan for the season but the financial implications of such a move will be prohibitive given the club’s desire to operate at a financially sustainable level.

The Sun reported that Burnley may be prepared to offer Gibson as part of a deal to sign Worrall.

Regarding the Worrall link, Lancashire Live’s Clarets reporter Alex James wrote: “The 23-year-old was a regular for Forest last season with Sabri Lamouchi's side missing out on the play-offs after a late capitulation.

“Worrall ticks the boxes for the Clarets given his age, potential to develop and the ability he has already shown in the second tier.”

Nottingham Forest offered Premier League player as part of swap deal - report
Nottingham Forest could be offered Burnley defender Ben Gibson as part of a swap deal for Joe Worrall, according to reports.

The Clarets have been linked with a summer swoop for Worrall, along with fellow Premier League club Sheffield United.

However, the article adds that Worrall is seeking assurances that he will get first-team football at Turf Moor

Trees have been quoted recently saying every player has their price and they are particularly keen to bolster their defence. Nothing certain, but watch this space.

I get Forest have rich owners but they seem to be flinging money around and must be skirting close to FFP as no parachute payments.

It's not like they have sold many players either to balance the books.
Theyve bought Taylor and blackett, but they have a large squad and every season sees trade - offs like an after-christmas sale.
You`re right about ffp - I wonder how close they have sailed close to the wind in recent seasons.

Can't see how Forest could afford his wages either tbh. He'd surely be more likely to take a pay cut to play for us than them.

If they get him as part of worral plus cash deal, it makes him more affordable. The cash from Burnley will help cover the difference between worrals wages and his.

Also on the subject of 'cash' think they may get a few quid for Matty Cash. A few prem clubs linked.

Still have a massive squad and some big earners.

I would have thought Forest's budget for wages is the roughly same as Boro's.

Boro have released a lot of big salaries this Summer - have Forest? (to pay the wages of their recent signings and Gibson?)

AK when at Forest signed some expensive players back in the summer of 2018.

After paying £15m for Ben Gibson I think Burnley will be looking at a swap deal for Worrall not swap and cash.

Burnley are willing to pay £4m plus Ben Gibson in order to prize Joe Worrall away from Nottingham Forest, it has been claimed.

Sean Dyche is a known admirer of the central defender, having tracked his progress at Forest in recent seasons, and is prepared to sanction the release of Gibson as part of the deal.

That’s according to the Daily Mail, who say the Championship club would want more money as part of any deal to allow Worrall to leave for Turf Moor.

Forest remain keen on Gibson, who the Clarets signed from Middlesbrough for a joint club-record £15m fee two years ago.
