Everyone's Second Favourite Team, in a bit of bother!

Not my favourite second team people only watched them to see Keegan implode that was 25 years ago now and everyone still thinks the Messiah was a cheating tawt

"Everybody's second favourite team"
"The Entertainers"
"The Toon Army"

All phrases invented and pushed to the public by Sky TV (In particular by Keys and Gray). I dont think there's ever been another team that they've adopted to push since then.
Was it them that also came up with the vomit inducing 'cathedral on the top of the hill' to describe their wonky soulless stadium?

I think they got the sack for making Joey-Bartonesque comments about female referees:love:

I think Man City's issues with PSR have really scuppered the likes of Newcastle, in that they can no longer get round the rules by artificially inflating sponsorship deals, naming rights, or fees paid for pre-season tournaments.

Which leaves them largely hamstrung as a result, which is hilarious and warms my heart to see.
At the time of the takeover I repeatedly asked friends/colleagues (some of whom are football journalists) how Newcastle could just 'do a City' in the FFP era and was constantly reassured that they could easily 'find a way' and that there are 'lots of loopholes' etc. Well 2.5 years later they are still mid-table in the PL and still not really signing any superstars. Obviously they had a brief rendez-vous with the CL but I'm all ears as to how they could be challenging for the title in the next 5 years when the classic 'big 3' of Liverpool, Man Utd and Arsenal (plus Chelsea) are having such a hard time in doing so.

Even Pardew/Ashley got them fifth once.

Saudi clubs sign all their dross for millions, other Saudi clubs loan them the big name younger players over there back?

I think before City were snagged up with PSR it was all good for them and they figured they'd simply replicate how they had bent the rules to pump millions into 'building' the team.

But, as we now know, PSR is beginning to show its teeth and the examples we've seen where clubs have been punished, or subject to that process, has made the PL more cautious when it comes to spending.

In Everton's case (and Forest it seems) it's a simple case of just not being within the margins allowed, but in the case of City they have been more devious in their observance of the rules.

I fear City will just throw money at lawyers in an effort to either get them of, or mitigate the punishment to such an extend it will be rendered meaningless, in real terms.

All I've heard/ read since the start of the season is that they are ahead of schedule.....bit odd really when you look at them now

I know yeah, this is laughable.

13th, 12th, 11th, 4th, 10th and out of every competition and having to sell all your players doesn’t sound like being ahead of schedule, it sounds like regression to the mean

Names pop up like Wilson making it out like they don’t really want to sell them . He’s at the wrong age along with thier right back .

City's crimes (to be determined) are all historical anyway. They've already stood up to one level of scrutiny so chances are they will again. Their recent record is to all appearances unblemished.
Mega-rich owners pumping cash in may skew the competition but as long as its hard cash going in with no loans or shares or some other means of being able to get the money back I dont see the problem. The only criteria should then be you must not run at a loss and if you do the owners need to put the amount of debt into an account in escrow to be called on should the club consider liquidation.
These owners get tired very quickly of handing over cash without the kudos of silverware reward.
