Everton fans gutted surely at appointment ?

I'd back him to keep them up.

Appointing a manager on any other basis would surely be delusions of grandeur in their situation.

Maybe Everton fans are gutted, but it's only reality kicking in.

Think it’s an outstanding appointment. Dyche is far more sophisticated than many give him credit for. You can’t be as successful as Dyche was with Burnley, for as long as he was with them, if you are tactically inflexible and only play a single way. You get found out, see a certain former nameless Boro manager for details 😉.

I fancy they’ll survive easily now.

They'll want to stay up - and he was the obvious candidate to give them a chance
As an aside Tarkowski Keane and McNeill will be players he knows....
I think Coady will be his type of player too - but they have big problems at the other end of the pitch

Hope none of the players are "posh" or, you know, have mothers 😉

I'm not so sure it's as much a guarantee of safety as people think it is. Will be interesting to see. I don't think he's daft, but I do think his tactics are dated. Suppose we'll find out how dated soon.

Probably helps having a couple of former players there mind. They'll be key.

Everton fans have never been bothered about nice footy, they want an in your face, aggressive side. Seems like he will suit them to be honest.

They loved Moyes and when Martinez tried to be more progressive and had Stones playing out from the back they hated it.

Fair point. Let me clear this up once and for all.

I was referring to the previous manager who refused to name the previous manager.

Rhymes with Swiss Milder.

it's a bit of an extreme reaction isn't it? I'd say the chances are that he'll steady the ship. It won't be pretty, but he kept Burnley up for a few years so can very much do it with Everton
Suppose I’m probably saying that I’d be gutted with SD…given his style of play. Probably what Everton need but good luck trying to score under SD

They hated Allardyce TBF. And he actually did ok results wise.

Precisely, they don’t know what they want because big Sam would’ve given them a lot more than SD. But, let’s see, my popcorn 🍿 is out…..
Great entertainment, thanks very much.
I’m interested to see if what SD did at Burnley can be replicated at a very different club like Everton.
I suspect not because I don’t rate him but we’ll see soon enough…..

The problem with Allardyce is that he's not likeable. I always think a lot is down to perception as much as facts with football fans. For all some on here don't like Dyche, he's actually quite an amusing guy and will show a bit of passion. That may offset concerns over style for a while.

Sam allardyce is a good manager. His Bolton team adopted sports science very well at the time compared to others and they had plenty of flair players

One of the first to use opta stats too I think.

Lad I went to uni with worked as part of his backroom staff and all he did was stats for him. He was in the dugout on match days, so think Allardyce was using them in real time too.

Did the same degree as me and ended up as head of scouting/recruitment at Man City, then Liverpool. Where did it all go wrong 😂

Dreadful manager. Last of the dinosaurs with a brand of gravy for breakfast razorblade football.
