European Super League to be announced tonight - 9:30pm

Just been having a quick scan through the Premier League rules. A club can only be expelled if at least three-quarters (i.e. 15) of the member clubs vote in favour of such a resolution. There are six clubs in the breakaway, so the maximum number of votes to expel any of them would be 14.

I can’t stand any of these clubs or their owners, but you’ve got to hand it to them, they’ve definitely thought this through.
There are ways around it. Give them a 70 point penalty applied to this season and a 70 next season. That relegates all of them over 12 months.

Pretty much.

You aren't thinking through some of the consequences. Our system needs the whole working together. As soon as they move outside the auspices of the FIFA-UEFA-national FA system then they can buy any player in the world out of their contract for it's remaining value. Imagine that, Tav 2mill gone, Fry, 1.5mill gone. It would be ruinous to any championship team with a talented player. We would be forever poached without any protection because our playing assets are currently ratified through the FA and UEFA and that puts the governance in place to make it work. Any club acting outside that control can just buy contracts out.
That's a very good point. :(

Wayne Rooney just said the ICC was the pre cursor to this

of course it was it’s been a Trojan horse for years

I would quite like to see Leicester, West Ham and Everton battle it out for the PL.

The nasty 12 would only get rich if they could get a lucrative TV contract. Sky, BT et al would be frightened off if fans made it clear they would boycott it. The majority of revenues comes from home markets, not the Far East.

Amazon apple there’s plenty out there with deep Pockets

Earlier it sounded like US streaming company DAZN have been heavily involved, but they seem to have denied that today

But are we looking towards a collapse in world interest in English football?
However much we might argue about money not trickling down to grass roots to some extent it still does - look at some of the facilities at Redcar and other local clubs that have received significant national funding - look at our own MFC Foundation that still receives some of its funding from the Premier League.
The Championship is severely underfunded as it is in normal times. I wonder how can any of the clubs can hope to survive this?

Would love it if FA charged them with bringing game into disrepute and deducted 12 pts or preferably relegate them to League 2 from where they might start to learn some humility for a few years

The bids for televising football have been going down. The French football deal collapsed in February.

I think the only way around it would be for the matter to be referred to The FA. They can ban the clubs from playing association football for playing in an unsanctioned competition and refuse permission for any other clubs to play against them.

I think the answer is not many Rob. It would be absolutely catastrophic for the football pyramid.

When I heard that quote that one of the clubs directors said his main remit was maximise his clubs revenue first before any thought of the rest of the footballing world just disgusted me. 'Legacy' fans too? Do me a favour.

This has effectively made the premier league the championship as it’s the second rung in the ladder as what does that make us.
