Time for the fa to act and ban them from representing England English rugby have done it.

I'm not sure that's a deterrent to be honest? Given the choice of continuing to represent your country versus an even bigger payday I imagine most would chose the latter?

As above, this proposal is very much designed to protect the entrants positions in domestic leagues (in effect, it replaces the UEFA competitions).

I'm not convinced any of the relevant domestic bodies would really expel the top sides from their respective leagues when they can, in theory, compete in both.

It's a simple power play between the big clubs and UEFA, with them wanting complete control over how competitions are run, and more importantly, funded.

It's literally only Barcelona and Real Madrid now.

Most major clubs are coming out and reaffirming their commitment to UEFA and distancing themselves from the ESL.

Presumably as a result of the shakeup of UEFA competitions plus increased money?

I guess they feel like they have got what they want anyway (for now), as the new proposal is basically UEFA's model rebadged.

A possible benefit of Brexit is that the ruling doesn't apply to the UK and our domestic leagues. In theory, we would still be able to refuse admission to our competitions, refuse work permits etc.

I hadn’t read the ruling I’ll be honest. Hopefully fans kill it like last time.

I think many fans will be against this but if their club joins, the fans will follow and the organisers know this.

Any proposed league or competition would operate within the European Union in part at least and thus come under Articles 101 & 102, which deal with abusing a dominant economic position. That it may include teams from outside the EU doesn’t change the legal position.

I'm arguing that we could exclude any participating English teams from our domestic competitions; an option not available to leagues in EU member states.
