England team for Germany?

Some big calls for Southgate to make. I'd go with Foden ahead of Saka but I'd be looking for Foden and Sterling to switch wings after 15-20 minutes if it isn't working.

Also great to know we have Saka as an option to bring off the bench.

.....................Pickford......................

Trippier....Maguire....Stones...Shaw

...........Henderson...Phillips.............

Foden............Grealish.........Sterling

.........................Kane........................

I'll get pelters for this but I'm not the England manager so I don't care, but I would drop Grealish. There I said it!

Nothing against Jack personally and I'd want him as first choice sub if we go behind, put I'd like us to nullify the threat of their wingbacks by having a left footer on the left (Foden) and a right footer on the right (Sancho). Play Sterling centrally running off Kane to expose a potential lack of pace at the back. Otherwise I'd go with the same team as you parmoboy.

For the record, if Southgate picks the same team as the OP, I'd have no problem with that.

It’s pointless putting big variations.
I wouldn’t have Sterling or Henderson in the team, but Southgate will.
I hope he plays Grealish, but don’t think he is brave enough.
If we go a goal down we will be done.

Pickford

Walker....Stones.....Maguire......Shaw

Henderson.....Rice

Foden.....Grealish.....Sterling

Kane
This team, except Bellingham in for Henderson or Rice. I think Jude could go on to become a superstar.

But I have a feeling he'll go with wingbacks and 3 CBs.

Germany's defence has been extremely poor all tournament so if we go at them, then I feel we could definitely cause them plenty of problems. Whereas our defence hasn't been too bad (I do think 3 clean sheets flatters us a bit, but still, we've looked quite solid and Pickford has barely made a save to make)

If he drops Grealish, then it could well prove to be a costly mistake.

I wouldn't have Sterling in either, this is the team I think he'll go for.

That's the crux of it for me too! Honestly I think he'd like to drop Grealish but I'm sure he know's it's a huge call and one that will be the post match talking point if we come unstuck.

I have a feeling he will start Foden ahead of Grealish as a no 10. I also think Sancho will got the nod ahead of Saka due to him knowing German football.

Sterling will and should start. He’s on form. Henderson I keep changing my mind on but would probably have no complaints either way. I think Foden will start and I think even though Mount has been isolating Southgate will bring him in for Grealish

You reckon he'll drop Saka after that MotM performance? I think that would be a huge call/risk.

There's rumours Mount might be recalled too, which makes me think Grealish will be dropped.

Would like to see Chilwell for Shaw and Sakah for Sterling and then I reckon that’s just about our best 11. Get Sancho and Mount on at about 70 mins and see a comfortable win on the cards. Henderson is essential as he is the only true leader on the pitch we have. Come on England 🏴󠁧󠁢󠁥󠁮󠁧󠁿

Mount ran rings around the Germans (Kroos & Gundogan) in the CL this season, which could be a factor. Neither could keep up with him.

However, I think I'd still rather go Grealish over Mount (assuming only 1 will make the 11). I think our defence is good enough, and Grealish is far better offensively than Mount is.

If Southgate is wanting us to improve set pieces and thinks set pieces could prove to be huge in the KO's, then surely Grealish is our best hope at winning them?

I don't think there is anyone in world football that wins more free kicks than Grealish does.

I'm sure he won more in 20 minutes against Scotland than any other player.

If Foden's fit, Grealish is on the bench (I doubt he'll play both). I think he'll switch to a back three, and my guess would be as follows:

Pickford

Walker
Stones
Maguire

Trippier
Henderson
Mount
Shaw

Sterling
Kane
Foden

I expect that might be the case but I still think he sees Henderson as his number 1 DM and have a sneaky feeling he may play him alongside a more attack minded CM - fully dependent on formation mind, if it's 4.2.3.1 I'd expect probably Henderson and Phillips.

He dropped the full-backs after the Croatia win so he clearly isn't afraid to take risks, although I accept Walker and Tripper didn't put in MotM performances.

Could he go with this maybe?

Pickford

Walker
Stones
Maguire
Shaw

Henderson
Foden
Mount

Sancho
Sterling
Kane

Foden, Mount, Sancho, Sterling AND Kane?

There's no chance
