England ladies were magnificent !

When did I mention 16 year old lads? I'm stating facts that the USA women's team who are arguably one of the better womens teams, lost 12-0 before half time against ex players who played for Wrexham, not on about then winning the women's World Cup and getting carries away , I'm showing how stupid some posters are saying that women are on par with the men.
Who has said women are on a par with men?

Sorry to keep banging this drum and making you look like an idiot - but again, this isn't true, so it's not a fact.

The game against Wrexham was a 7-a-side game in a friendly tournament featuring retired USA international players. Wrexham, on the other hand had a few current squad members in their team. Slide tackling wasn't allowed and the offside rule was removed, so it was about the same competitive level as Masters Football (although looking back, that was bloody good fun to watch.)

Even if it was, real, is anybody really debating the physical differences of men over women here? If we've got to the point where it's misogynistic to say men, physically fit men engaging in regular physical activity and training especially, are physically dominant when compared to most women then things are silly.

The technical side of the game is catching up (still miles off) but the impact of the physical differences shouldn't be underestimated, especially at the level of professional sport.

From a purely technical standpoint I'm not entirely convinced most of the 'pros' from the 60's were much better than the USA or England women are today.

People still watched it though because seeing people of similar quality or standards physically and technically, above a certain level or proficiency, is entertaining. The comparison to the men's game will always be made but those who can't allow themselves to enjoy women's football because of the men's, a bit sad isn't it..

Personally I don’t think we can compare the men’s and women’s game and why should we? I think when I look at women’s and men’s sports I tend to look at each individual sport based on excitement and achievement.

For instance when I look at Women’s gymnastics I never compare it to men’s gymnastics as we know women excel at this particular sport for obvious reasons, but also because men can’t duplicate the excitement and the quality.

Football is kind of like that for me and while I haven’t watch much of the women’s World Cup (time zone) I can say that from the highlights England have been the most superior side in the tournament and have provided maybe the most excitement and quality.

Unfortunately we’re all judgmental when it comes to watching sport which is why we’re armchair fans— not necessarily experts.

The women’s game will continue to progress at the international level although it might be a while before the domestic game can supplant the international game which is what it might have to do in order for the game to progress on a wider scale.

In the meantime just watch it for what it is— a growing trend which has excitement and quality based on their level— no need to compare.

This is already happening. The WSL is one of, if not the biggest league in the world. Arsenal ladies had 40,000+ crowds last season against Man United, Spurs and Chelsea, and the NWSL is arguably more popular than MLS in America.

The England women have done amazingly well. For some reason I can’t get excited about it still. Not sure why. Maybe it’s just not for me, like how I don’t get excited about Spanish football.

I think the final will be on in our house cos we have guests and I hope we win but I don’t think I’d be watching if it was just me and the wife.

Good luck ladies!!!

Good luck to the ladies, excellent achievement hope they win it but I won't be 'making a date' to watch it, if I'm not busy at the time sure I'll pop it on.

What does get me and really annoys me is that already we've had 'Lauren James could play in the premier League ' headlines, we've had 'Wiegman should earn the same wage as Southgate ' in the guardian this morning.

This divide and conquer nonsense putting man against woman. Anyone of sound rational mind knows that if a woman were to play at any level professionally within the men's game it would be genuinely dangerous to their health.

Just celebrate them for what they're doing in their sport.
I can already see the headlines ' look the women are better at football than the men they can win the euros and the world cup'. Completely ignoring that male football is the most competitive sport in the world by an absolute country mile.

England are in an ideal situation in women's football, there's huge investment and around 6 teams in the world that are above the level of San Marino (in relative terms) I reckon they should be aiming to win the next 4 major competitions.
