England fact

First real World Cup for me was Mexico 1970
England winning 2-0 in QF against Germany
Gerd Muller and Uwe Seeler still haunt me to this day
I genuinely thought we were going to face Brazil with Pele in the final
I was 9.

My dad who worked in the post office in 1966 bought a full sheet of 4d stamps for world cup winners and said to keep hold of these as one day they'll be worth a fortune.
55 years later still waiting for his investment to come to fruition. In relative terms think they were worth more then than now!
However priceless item to me as remind me of my dad.

Ran home from school in 1982 in time to see Bryan Robson put England ahead against France.....used to be the fastest World Cup goal I believe.
I was a rough industrial painter at Casell works ICI back then & on that day 1982 I asked if I could leave early to see the France game, the forman said, yes I could leave at half 2, I then ran all the way home to West Lane, getting in just as the teams kicked off & in time for the fastest ever goal 👍

Gordon Banks' wife was German and she wasn't invited to the players' party after the victory in the 1966 final

Then again nor were any of the other WAGs
