England bit of perspective

I think GS has done a good job so far in bringing a young squad together, yes we didn't play that well against Scotland but he has a team with real potential. Unlike all the arm chair managers, he has played and managed in tournament football including a world cup semi final.

He knows tournament football is about peeking at the right time and managing expectations on and off the pitch, I'm hoping GS manages and realises the potential of the squad at the right time.
End of hte day the British public aren't very knowledgeable about football but think they are. They complain if a manager doesn't win every game 3-0 and if we do they tend to complain that the opposition was weak. They complain that every England manager is tactically inept every time we fail to batter a team. It happened to Robson, it happened to Sven and it happened to Capello. Southgate has won more competitive games than all those managers and none of them went further in a competition than southgate (semi-final) and he's done it twice.

England has some very promising players but they're quite inexperienced, even for their young ages. Many of them are members of megasquads and have had limited first-team opportunities. There's not much GS can do about that, other than picking them himself. I wouldn't expect too much from them yet.

Yes it's promise at the moment but we have idiots talking about Grealish like he's the next Zidane. There is so much nonsense on sky about the Premier league we overhype the abilities of our players beyond their actual level. We have for years with the likes of lampard Gerrard etc Grealish and foden and Mount being the latest. Are they really world beaters certainly not at the moment will they fulfill the hyperbole more than likely not

It's what we do and always have done - build 'em up, knock 'em down. That's part of the reason why our national press is so awful - it reflects and caters for the worst aspects of our national character.

This is a silly discussion, having a 'half decent striker' doesn't automatically mean someone would beat us, you have to get the ball to the striker, in the right areas, work midfielders so that they lose their man , and defend properly. Scotland defended properly but didn't stretch our midfield, get in behind us, pull our CBs out of position, get between the lines.

Your argument is that a better team would have beaten us or if scotland had better players, you can make that argument against any team. The reality is that our defence were largely comfortable and we could have played another 2 hours and it still probably would have been 0-0
With the chances that they had, if they didnt fall to a championship striker it would have ended up in a goal.

A better team will pull Englands defence apart, I can guarantee the next decent side they play which will likely be in the next round, will comfortably beat them

We have got good players so all we have to do is play well and score a couple of goals. Bringing in Calvert-Lewin alongside Harry K with Sancho getting a runout, as I think we will play Germany after the last group game , and those changes will give us a chance.😛

which chances did their strikers have, they had one header and the fullback had a shot from a very tight angle where I would expect the keeper to save it. That's about it.

If these ultra cautious tactics get us to the final then we'll all have to admit that Southgate's plan has worked.

Yes we have got two decent results but at some point I'd like to see some entertainment on the pitch, thats why I watch football and Friday night wasn't remotely entertaining.

I'm not saying play 11 strikers there has to be balance but I want to see the balance tipped a bit more towards attacking football.

I can live with defensive football against the likes of France but against Scotland we were capable of being positive and winning the game but we did neither.

Weve got 4 points not many teams are smashing it with 2 wins.
If we drew with Croatia and beat the jocks I'm sure we would be happy. We played a team who would have died just to beat us. Was always gonna be a tough game. Fair play to them they stopped us playing.

You can put all your formations and teams up with all your attacking midfielders in but if southgate played that we would have been beaten by a well organised Scottish team. Theres no mugs in this tournament barring north Macedonia.

I think we are well setup to play against the big teams and do well. C'mon 🏴󠁧󠁢󠁥󠁮󠁧󠁿
🤣. Only response to the OP
