England 🏴󠁧󠁢󠁥󠁮󠁧󠁿 v Finland 🇫🇮 - 7:45pm ITV1

Shame we are not in the top groups for the nations league. Doesn't really tell us much if the England team has really changed from the summer. It's like a prem team playing against a low level championship team. First real test will be when WC qualifying starts depending on how the draw goes. Greece should hopefully give us more of a game.

We’ve got some talent…tricky to mould them into a team as always. England always tend to shy away from picking an ‘ugly’ player that can do a disruptive job. Ironically the only times we have, Stiles and Phillips, have been our best tournaments.

Just back from the match. I feel we dominated, struggled with the final ball or shot first half, played better second half and got a couple of goals. But we left ourselves wide open to the counter 3 or 4 times and a better team would have punished us a couple of times

Impressed with Gomes. Very composed, makes quick decisions and with tempo. Allows Rice to be more advanced which suits him better.
We came out in the second half and played with more intensity and sustained pressure and got the breakthrough.

Decent start for Carsley with the context of some below par opposition, but nice to see us able to create chances and breakdown a low block.
Yes I thought he played well. Always seemed to find space to receive the ball and to smartly recycle it. Bit of a Bobby Murdoch-esque performance.
Mind you I've had to Google the lad this morning to find out who he is and who he plays for.🙄

TAA has to be allowed to make that RB spot his own.

Some of his passes are fantastic.

He was definitely MotM last night, he was the best player on the pitch by a mile.

This is why I say that people who expected us to walk away with the trophy this summer were being unrealistic.
Was anyone saying that?

I thought we had a very real and tangible chance of winning it, but tournament football relies on a bit of luck and the best team doesn't always win it.

Anyone who believed we would walk away with it are a bit deluded tbh.

That was my concern, I'm hoping Carsley will stiffen up the middle of the park against better opposition...

Over the years we have watched England managers try and shoe horn the best players into the team which has left it unbalanced, Carsley has to be brave and pick the players that fit the system and make the team function better, it's an incredibly difficult position because the press will hound him if he leaves a big name out.

Southgate played Foden on the left, with a right footed left back an out of form Bellingham and a knackered Kane..

Suited him last night, a free role against second class opponents who sat back all game giving him plenty of time to pick his passes BUT can't defend against better class opponents.

He's also done this against better class opponents too....whilst at Liverpool when winning the biggest prizes on offer...

He's not the best defensive RB out there....but there's no one better at RB in the world at going forward.

And we've not got a better RB available...

We'd be mad not to utilise him.

I'd use him against second class opponents but definitely wouldn't pick him against top teams Walker and James far better. But happy to disagree.
