Emotional day today

I am a quiet poster on this forum but I felt compelled to say something today. Today’s match marked the first season since 1966 that my mum is not a season ticket holder. She was diagnosed with Alzheimer’s 7 years ago. Now she can not get to the game after deterioration during lockdown.

People will say that football is not important and opening of stadia is not a priority. But today I was blown away and reminded of how many fans knew my mum. The community is so important. I was so pleased the lads brought 3pts home for her. Up the boro.

Respect Didsbury, lockdown has changed so many lives and been so difficult for so many, heard a few tough stories about people’s time today at the match.

Today was the first time I was totally on my own too, always had two season tickets, me and the owld feller. When he ’stopped going’ in 2019 his ticket continued with other relatives and mates. Didn’t renew ‘his ticket’ this season, but the community around me in the north stand was as good as ever and while it was odd at first, by half time I knew I’ll still always be going regardless.

So sad to hear.
Football is important. Nearly all my memories of watching the Boro for 59 years are wrapped around family and friends many who are no longer with us. Its been a huge part of my family life.
Your memories of you and your Mum at the games and the build up to them will stay with you forever and make you smile.
