Given Assombalonga and Akpom’s complete ineptitude and the injuries to Bolasie and Fletcher, there must be someone else who can fill the role up top and make more of an impact against Cardiff? Is it worth a throw of the dice?
.McNair has a bit of everything and can play in every other position of the field so might be worth a go.
.Hall might be as slow as Glenn Murray but he can challenge in the air and could give Watmore some knock-downs to work with.
.Cardiff’s central defenders are extremely slow so Coulson or Spence’s explosive pace could be a threat to make their defenders sit deep and give more space to our midfielders.
.Watmore is better playing off someone but has a bit of physicality and intelligence about him to give them something to think about as the lone striker.
.Mendez Laing looks a long way off being ready but he looks like he should be able to offer some questions for the defenders to think about.
.Saville is pretty good at winning his 50/50s and is decent at positioning himself in the right place for the ball to drop.
.Tyrone O Neil - I think he is back with us. He might have the technique of a Northern League player but he is tall and wily.
.Johnson has a sledgehammer of a left foot and is playing with a point to prove.
I think all these options would be better than the sleep-deprived Akpom and the 2021 version of Assombalonga.
