Eddie Jones set to be sacked

We'll always have that semi-final against New Zealand.

It's been a long time coming though.

He doesn’t seem bothered about results and hasn’t for some time.

The South African game was awful we looked lost and even the bounce off the bench we have seen was gone.

You certainly can't accuse the RFU of a kneejerk reaction. Since the world cup, results have been pretty average for a country with our playing resources - 3rd and 5th in the 6 Nations should have been a wake up call, but the team has drifted aimlessly through the autumn and he looks short of ideas to improve things. At this point in the WC cycle I think you need to be 90% there and fine tuning - we are so far away from this and tactics look dated and muddled. Elite players need to hear a different voice after a period of time and England look to be at that point.

I’ll admit I’m not a rugby expert or do I pretend to be but from what I’ve seen we look to be bringing in a younger generation a changing of the guard as it were of players to more pace etc but trying to use the same old tactics rather than play to our new strengths.

We look to have lost our spark compared to to the re invigorated French and the impressive Irish.

He has been good for England, but puzzling lack of form in the recent Autumn internationals. However it was only in the summer that England won a tour in Australia, which is no mean feat.

I am not sure how I feel about this. I think that perhaps it is too close to the world cup to make such a change.

Jones seemed to become obsessed with this pacey powerplay that South Africa beat us with in 2019. Big ball carriers who were versatile to adjust to the demands of big test matches. Our strategy also switched to kick for possession, again as SA did in 2019 and still do so successfully now. He has continuously ignored form players and attempted to put square pegs in round holes. Similar to Southgate with Maguire, Henderson, Mount etc, Jones had his favourites who were never really putting in anything above 7/10 performances. For example, recently choosing Tom Curry who domestically has his a stale patch, over Ben Earl who is arguably the best player in the Premiership at the moment was a real head scratcher.

There has been some bright sparks and great memories from his time in charge but it is definitely time for a shake up. Borthwick winning the Premiership with Leicester was a great step in the right direction for him.

One year til the world cup better that he sees that out as planned. We've had mixed results but it's not been disastrous. Sacking him now would be along the lines of wanting rid of Southgate after being poor in the nations league. A short sighted knee jerk reaction.

I think it's far from knee jerk.

England have been poor for 3 years now.

Even our positive results have been scraped recently.
