Duncan Watmore

I’ve always liked whatmore
He did have an incredible turn of pace and be interesting to see if he still has this....
Obviously injuries have took a toll but perhaps he was destined to bump into NW.
if he can agree terms that suit Boro and whatmore don’t be surprised to see him pulling up trees for us by the new year!
I really believe this under Neil Warnocks expert guidance 👍👍

He's apparently rapid. I guess he still is despite his injuries. I have read a few things from Sunderland fans saying he hadn't been the 'same' since his injury.

That said I think most said as a free transfer it's pretty much a nothing to lose situation. You give him a contract until July and see what happens. He can at least put himself in the shop window to prove to other clubs he's fit.

I imagine he's a far cheaper version of Bolasie. He plays wide in a 3 meaning we only have to play one forward (leaving one to rotate).

Warnocks comments suggest he's really impressed in two weeks. He doesn't seem to have got much wrong so far and I would expect that him / Blackwell and Jepson will have done back ground checks about his ability but also character.

If its purely down to finances you'd think Watmore would be pretty flexible. It would be a great opportunity for him to play in the champo and remain living local. I doubt neither Watmore or his agent would price him out of a move.

There won’t be any questions about Watmore’s character.

There will be questions marks concerning his ability, certainly if he has lost some of his pace.

And there will be significant questions concerning his ability to avoid injury.

It'd be quite funny if it came off. How miffed would you be if you were a Sunderland fan?

Can't see him being a huge success, he's without a club for a reason. But if he adds a bit of quality and can come off the bench and turn 3 or 4 games from draws into wins or allow us to keep other players fresh (particularly Roberts) then it's probably worth it. Feels like a Ledesma/Zemmama type signing which isn't necessarily a bad thing.

Agree with you both, if we signed him in the window at the beginning I would of been a bit underwhelmed but given our position ( we have a real chance) and lack of forward options it’s a chance for him to prove himself until January and if it doesn’t work out then he can try his luck elsewhere , if he stays fit and contributes excellent. He may well earn himself a contract.

Yep a win, win really, as you its another number we can call upon

Looks like Robbie Fowler’s team offered him a contract and Warnock stepped in and said no we need to get this done. Fairplay to Warnock

He was fit for most of last season. His injures were over the 2 years before hand.

I have a few Sunderland 'mates' who say he's not lost his pace. They said he was as quick as ever last season. They also say end product has always been an issue (isn't it always with quick wingers).

It's not like he's getting a 1 year deal or even 2. He's coming in until Jan with no doubt a clause he may trigger if he plays a set number of games or even a contract already set up for if he impresses.

It's a no brainer for both parties. He's clearly impressed Warnock so we should trust that... He ain't got much wrong yet. I also think it's a bold move by Watmore as in its only short term. He could get crocked and be out of work for 6 months without the security of a 2 year deal to get paid whilst injured.

He will probably see it as a great chance to play in the champo (and not move house). If not he can at least put himself in the shop window for other clubs.

He's probably looked at as a very cheap Bolasie. Whatever role Warnock wanted him to play could be filled by a fit Watmore (I'm guessing wide in a 3 meaning we only need 1 forward on the pitch at anyone time).

No no...
If Neil Warnock has watched him train for a couple of weeks and likes him...then expect good things from him...perhaps even great things.
This lad looked the real deal a couple or 3 years back and has had bad luck with injuries. What he hasn't had is a Neil Warnock as his manger bringing out the best in him.
IF he signs then expect a lot. (the only reason he doesn't sign will be due to the current situation and Boros lack of money with this virus versus whatmore's financial demands possibly)

He looked the business when he broke through in the prem a few seasons back. Scored some vital goals. He has... had... blistering pace and was always looking to take his man on.

Obviously he's going to have lost something but I'd be more than happy to have him here.

No sure he has lost something at age 26. bang in the middle of his prime.
Thanks Sunderland hehe..(y)(y)

Agree 👍

I fully trust Warnock. He's in his 3rd week at the club and he's clearly impressed. He bombed Sonogo out after a week. He describes him as a 'top lad' and we know that's something Warnock looks at.

I can see issues. We are skint and he was on a prem contact (for 4yrs) so despite being on a free I imagine he will still want a few quid. Also not much security in a 2 month deal.

I guess it rests on how much he is gambling on himself to win a better contact. Oh and you don't get Parmos in Australia 😂
