Drinking in the seats

Does it not make sense in the current climate to have people away from one another enjoying their drinks. You don’t want the concourse full making social distancing even more difficult than it already is this season.

No problem with drinking in the seats as long as the idiots behave themselves and none of this throwing it in the air nonsense at every opportunity..

I'm not remotely bothered unless you get some p*ssed up Doyle launching it when we score (hardly an issue).

It's one of the things I love about going to cricket. You can sit and drink all day and I have to say the average cricket crowd is very much 'football' mentality these days.

The only downside is going to the toilet every 5 mins. I had 3 lads away at Coventry who must have said 'excuse me' 10 times going got a p*ss. It gets a bit annoying after a while 😂

I’ve even tempted to take a beer into the stands when I’ve had to wait so long to get served the match is starting before I get the chance to drink it. Maybe that’s why we’re seeing more of it?

When my kids were small we sat in North East corner. At half time and pre kickoff the stewards wouldn't allow you stand in a certain area of the concourse because you could see the pitch.

Aye there's sections of the concourse pained that you're not allowed to stand in with a pint.. embarrassing really

Sometimes we are quite idiotic in this country. I don't agree with the drinking ban anyway but we initiate changes in law for (we think) the best of intentions, in this case crowd trouble. Then by the time the legislation is past it has morphed into not being allowed to drink within sight of the pitch which means that if you are sat behind a glass window in a restaurant or private box and you have a drink, you must close the blinds.
I've never understood that rationale. It's not like we're banning people from drinking all day. They can just drink more before/after or at half time to compensate.

I also think the football fans × alcohol = violence is a lazy stereotype by authorities.

It’s often mentioned about drinking in sport and rugby etc comes up but the law actually says.

it is illegal to watch live FOOTBALL ( not sport) whilst consuming alcohol.

so if it sounds like victimisation that’s because it is.

The Sporting Events (Control of Alcohol etc.) Act 1985 prevents:

  • drunken entry into a football ground (which, in practice, to be an arrestable offence includes disorderly behaviour);
  • the consumption of alcohol within view of the playing area including, during the restricted period (15 minutes before the start of the event to 15 minutes after the end of the event), rooms within the ground from which the event may be directly viewed;
  • the consumption of alcohol on certain coaches, trains and motor vehicles travelling to a designated football match;
  • the possession of fireworks or flares.
The Act applies to the following sporting events:

  • Association football matches in which one or both of the participating teams represents a club which is for the time being a member (whether a full or associate member) of the Football League, the Football Association Premier League, the Football Conference National Division, the Scottish Football League or Welsh Premier League, or represents a country or territory.
  • Association football matches in competition the Football association Cup (other than in the preliminary or qualifying round).
The Act only applies in England and Wales.

I've seen blokes (it is a male pre-occupation seemingly) cracking cans in the stands. I've seen some chucked out for doing it. I've even seen one nobber necking from a glass bottle of Bud (it may have been an alternate brand)

Those contemplating it should be aware that the CCTV footage is available to the club after the game if they become aware of it happening...

It's having the option though isn't it. Noone will be forced to drink through the game (although it may have been advisable yesterday).

If it's good enough for football on the continent, rugby and cricket it should be good enough for footy. I was at a non league game yesterday with roughly 600 others, drinking at pitch side. Not sure why the risk is deemed lesser there?

The lads who sit next to go down to the concourse about 3:35 and come back at 4:10 🤷‍♂️
Similar to the lads who sit near me who also arrive about 5 minutes after kick off, personally I don't like to miss a minute of the action but to some it's case of the match gets in the way of a good drink.
