he's gotten worse which obviously tells everyone that he's lacking confidence so I'm not too sure why he hasn't been benched?
That was what was so poor about that third. We were pushing forward and every other keeper in the league would be outside their area to clear any ball over the top.Getting back to the original point of the post, he appears very limited as a keeper. In fairness to him, he has made a number of good reaction saves when he doesn't have time to think. But I get very nervy when I see someone lining up a shot from outside the box. His record of getting beaten from distance is very poor.
The one thing that doesn't get picked up that often is his starting position. He reminds me of kids in games lessons - he starts on his goal line and is very reluctant to leave it. I would much rather see him starting from the penalty spot when the opposition are breaking from their own half. Take their third last night, if his starting position had been better when Wells had the heavy touch he could have stepped in and cleared the danger. There have been a number this season where he has dithered and got stuck in no man's land.
How bad would Archer be in comparison? I don't ever recall seeing him play.
He is part of the defence and his positioning was totally wrong for a team pushing forward. He did ok on Saturday and that was commented on on a couple of thrrads.I agree he made a dodgy decision for the third goal but, again, he was completely exposed by a defence that had gone missing.
Interesting to note that this thread wasn't hoofed on Saturday evening, as far as I can tell. Maybe the defence doing their jobs properly and not letting the opposition have our empty half to run into had something to do with it? : )
As I say I think he should've been more decisive for their third goal. But then why did Warnock single only the defenders in the post-match conference? He mentioned Fry, McNair, Dijksteel. Bola was mentioned for not shooting. Even Watmore got a mention in terms of how poor everyone was. He called Fletcher out for getting injured. Why didn't he mention Bettinelli? I'm sure if he actually though he was at fault he'd be singled out, just like the others.
Probably because he wasn't responsible for the defence parting like the Red Sea and, yet again, the strikers not scoring. Why Bettinellii gets mauled on here is beyond me. The problems are all at the other end.. Why didn't he mention Bettinelli? I'm sure if he actually though he was at fault he'd be singled out, just like the others.

There is much more than one problem with this team, woeful keeper, disorganised defence, indentikit central midfield, abysmal strikers who struggle to score or even hit the target and a lack of creativity and pace other than short term options.Probably because he wasn't responsible for the defence parting like the Red Sea and, yet again, the strikers not scoring. I wouldn't be too sure of that. Unless you mean resign and leave it to someone who has some idea of what needs doing.Hopefully Neil knows what to do in the summer

That's exactly what I said at the time - it was like a desperate, relegation threatened side, pushing hard for a goal and getting caught out.I think the main issues last night were the defence going missing. I can't remember the last time I saw a Boro defence just disappear like that. It was like we were chasing a last-minute equaliser in a cup match. Bettinelli should probably have been more decisive, or sharper, on their third goal but the team in front of him should never have put him in that position really. I don't think he should've had that sort of decision to make. To give the opposition a full half to run into is shocking.
