Do you tip your barber after a haircut?

Sometimes, though it's usually only because I don't want to look scruffy waiting for my change.

I get the same haircut every single time, so it's rare that there's anything notable worth tipping over.

It’s always been a moment of awkwardness historically, was never sure if you should or how much but now I just pay contactless, awkwardness abated.

It’s also gone up significantly recently. £20 a pop, and no discount for rapidly reducing follicles.

Another one I’ve never understood is why my barber gives me a tissue when we are finished. What am I supposed to do with it?

I just say thanks and make a token gesture of rubbing the back of my neck with it. They probably wonder what I’m doing cos it’s for blowing your nose 😂

I am no longer as folically blessed as I once was so I have no need for a barber these days. In the past I would tip via the "keep the change method". Once they accepted card there was no change and if they wanted to charge £10 instead of £9 they could.

The tipping culture in America is horrendous. It's a way for businesses to avoid paying proper wages and workers expecting tips at a certain level makes the whole experience awful. Here in the UK we have minimum wage laws so there is no need to tip. I also find it bizarre that there are certain jobs that receive tips where others don't. Waiting staff in a restaurant for example are taking home more than the people cooking the food or cleaning etc with tips but I don't see why. They are all part of the team. Food delivery apps are now charging higher prices than going direct, then there is a delivery fee then an admin fee and now they are asking for tips as well. Tipping should be reserved for exceptional service above the expected level.

Tomahawk Steakhouse are shocking for it.

Trying to push 15% service charge on an already massively overpriced meal.

It's barely optional if you have to specifically opt out and you have to tell the servers themselves that you don't want them to have the tip before they take it off.

I don't tip anything if I can help it. I read a piece that said the forced "x% added to the bill" option is somehow optimal for places in terms of tax which is why suddenly so popular
