it should be delayed again. no way can they consciously bring that many people from all over the world into 1 location. it's a barmy idea. i don't care if you've trained your whole life for this moment. there are bigger things at the moment than seeing who is running the 100m quickest in 2021

I think they will be ON, right up to the moment it all kicks off & it will then be OFF.... & I think that could be when - officials & athletes - arrive & an upsurge in infections happens... locals take to the streets & trash the venues - a very un Japanese thing to do - probably just protest very loudly.

I find it hard to believe such an advanced nation like Japan has such vaccine scepticism..

"In a Lancet study of 149 countries published in September, Japan ranked among the lowest in vaccine confidence, with fewer than 25% of people agreeing on vaccine safety, importance and effectiveness."

Just cancel them - ridiculous thought that they could / should go ahead

Tough on Tokyo but such is life - they can bid for 2036

It'll be on.

They'll implement quarantine measures before hand.

Motor racing around the world was and is allowed to continue. Football has obviously continued home and abroad, travelling from high infection areas to low infection areas.

If it gets cancelled again this year Tokyo won't host it the next time it's on.

If the Olympics are cancelled then Euros should be as well

Totally different logistics.

There were 11,000 athletes at the 2016 Olympics, not even getting in to trainers and other staff.

At the Euros, even if you said that each team took 50 people with them, which is probably a high estimate, then that's only 1,200 people.
I don't think there's much chance of the Euros being in 12 countries now though, or many fans being present.

If it goes ahead, without any crowds, then perhaps they could expand it over a longer period of time, to avoid an influx of athletes within two weeks?

It will def go ahead as Japan know if they don’t they will miss out you france in in 2024.

now what they will be like and how many will take part is a different issue but yes they will def happen in some guise. as they’ve pretty much said as much

organising committee has insisted that the Games will go ahead this summer regardless of the situation with the COVID-19 pandemic.

A recent spike in infections in Japan has seen Tokyo and 10 other prefectures placed under a state of emergency, but Tokyo 2020 President Yoshiro Mori said on Tuesday that the Olympics will take place from July 23-August 8.

"We will hold the Olympics, regardless of how the coronavirus [situation] looks," Mori said, according to Reuters, though he acknowledged that the Games would be different due to the pandemic. "We must consider new ways of hosting the Olympics.

Look at what is happening in Australia with the tennis.

I just cant see how the Olympics can go possibly ahead - even without crowds. Unless of course every country sets aside a few thousand vaccines and gives them to their athletes and then you could have a really crap Olympics with no crowds. Japan would have to vaccinate thousands of officials, hotel staff, volunteers, bus drivers, journalists, TV crew, bin men, commentators etc.

I think the best option would be to move the 2024 Olympics to Tokyo, and then move each of the next ones back a cycle.
