Do Newcastle fans want to see Boro and Sunderland in the Premier League?

A lot of assumption about where Newcastle are headed, purely based on one season finishing in the top 4. They’ve had money before, and won nowt.

Remember how quickly fans’ expectations rise, especially up there, and how toxic it can be. They turn on boards pretty quickly too if history tells us anything.

I’ve no doubt at all they’ll be a regular top 6 side but that wasn’t enough for most fans in the 90s once they’d been given a taste of what’s above that. United are about to be bought by an entity just as powerful, City already seem unstoppable, I’m not sure I see PL titles in the near future.

It’s not as if we can just totally write off giants like Liverpool or Arsenal yet, and Chelsea/Spurs will continue to spend I’ve no doubt. Who knows what other grotesque ownership regimes are circling big PL clubs.

It will be interesting to see if/how they continue to spend as we await the outcome of the Man City stuff.

A lot of you are getting as carried away as their fans are! 😁😉

I don't think anyone is saying they will go on to win the league year after year and win the Champions League in the near future - The reality is that unless something changes with the ownership they are going to cement themselves amongst the big clubs battling at the top of the league.

The group competing for honours is getting bigger, Its gone from Man Utd and Arsenal in the late 90's to now where you have Man city, Man Utd, Arsenal, Chelsea, Liverpool, Tottenham and now Newcastle all with the infrastructure and ability to go and spend 200m + every summer. So you are right, absolutely no guarantee they will win things with all those clubs competing but what those clubs are doing is pulling away from everyone else - especially clubs like us and Sunderland. Yes, Chelsea are having a disaster this year but its a one off and they will bounce back.

We all know UEFA will be flexing the rules again to allow more English teams and Spanish teams into the Champions League to deter the 'Super League' talk but as with most things in life a Super League of sorts will happen at some point and those teams above will be all for it deep down.

Ok, fair points. But my point was that they were an established top 4 club for a fair chunk of the 93-2003 era (we were nowhere near them even with Gibson’s spending at that time) and they won nowt then, leaving very little impression on Europe.

They will always love beating us and, even more so, Sunderland, whatever they say about it is purely intended to belittle.

100% this.

The skunks are loving it at the moment because its a refreshing change from the mediocrity they had for a decade under Ashley. But there's no guarantee they'll win anything in the next 3 or 4 years, and if that happens don't be surprised to see their delusional mentality kick in again with growing frustration.

Remember the banners saying "we just want a club that competes"? How long do people think that will be all that matters if they don't start winning stuff? Not long imo. And if they ever start demonstrating against these current owners, the Saudi's will drop them in heartbeat because the only reason they bought that club was to sportswash British football fans and TV pundits, and eventually try to improve the regimes image aboard. Negativity against them is the last thing the Saudi's will put up with.

There's no guarantee Newcastle will do well no matter how much money they have.

As for rivalries, In the 70's, 80's, and 90's there was a rivalry and anyone who attended the games between us in those days know that's the truth, whether they're a Geordie or a Teessider, but these days I'm happy for my hometown club not to have any association or rivalry with a club owned by a barbaric regime like the skunks embraced with open arms and sold their soul to.

I agree with everything you have put there but feel we already have a super league in the Champions League. What these clubs want is a water tight guarantee that they remain in the Champions League (super league) and don't want the competition that Newcastle has brought this season for places. Not playing in the Champions League will cost Liverpool and Chelsea millions in lost revenue next season and they would like to stop another snout at the trough.

Although I would love the streak of them not winning anything to continue, it feels different this time and I feel the owners are going to make sure they get trophies for the blood money they are putting in.

This, the game's politically powerful have already reacted to Man City's status, they brought in the ridiculously named FFP to maintain the status quo as far as possible. The Saudi money at Newcastle will further reduce the old 'elite's' grip.

In the meantime European and American 'investors' will be taking their bonuses home, further eroding the power of the traditional richest clubs.

Until FFP imposes an immediate 10 points deduction for any club flouting the law, it will be none effective. Fines mean nothing to the revenue these top clubs are pulling in.
