Dental implants.

Anyone had a single one done.
When I was a kid I hit a lamppost on my bike which broke a couple of teeth. One of them was replaced by a post crown and that has happily sat there for 50 yrs.
It loosened a week ago and my dentist said the root the post is in has cracked.
Options are a denture , a hole in the front of my teeth or an implant.
Don't want a false tooth palate or a hole.
I thought an implant but she said it would be £2500 to £3000 😵.
Anyone been anywhere where its cheaper in the local area?

Had some done in Goa. Professor of Dentistry and published several times in U.K. academic papers. My U.K. dentist wasn’t happy but commented that the work done was excellent. Was about £500 each. They are expensive here.

Had 2 done last year at Market Place dentist in Thirsk. Really happy with the service and end result but it was expensive about 3k per tooth.
Obviously much cheaper if you fancy a short holiday to Turkey.

I'm surprised at those prices in the UK. I was shocked when told it would be up to 1800 euros in France and thought it would be far cheaper in the UK. The only trouble is that I moved to a more rural house in France 3 years ago and still haven't been able to get a dentist to take me. I've been walking around with a gap for over a year now. I try to smile less. Grrr.

Most dentists in the UK are private these days and very difficult to see one on the NHS.

I broke a tooth in France which needed to be removed. I looked into getting an implant and was quoted similar prices to you by Linthopre Dentist.

The lamppost loosened after 50 years?

When I was looking into having mine done, the dentist who I believe is Egyptian, told me they would remove the tooth, wait until it healed and then would need a bone graft to allow the tooth to take. The bone would either be synthetic, human, or animal bone.

When he said animal I must have scrunched my face, so he explained that it is usually horse bone. To make light of the situation I asked if I would get the trots. The young dental assistant burst out laughing and he replied, oh no sir, there are no side effects - straight over his head. 🤣 🤣 🤣

I think it was going to be 6 months plus from tooth removal, bone graft and then the implant fitted.

I had a couple done about 15 years ago after a bridge failed ( similar situation to original poster’s situation). Dentist who did the work locally has since retired and have been getting yearly X-rays, as well as normal dental hygiene checks, from my own dentist, who referred me to the local implant surgeon. I needed artificial bone ( pig) but have had no problems with it. Problem with going abroad is few dentists over here would touch it if you had any problems, or so I’m told!

A neighbour went to Pickering - Ryedale Dental Health Care and Implant Center. Thought the costs were reasonable.

I had an upper front tooth implant fitted about two years ago.
I had the tooth extracted about 20 years ago and lived with a horrible smelly denture for far too long.
I finally caved in and had the implant and wished I had done it from the start.
Just over £3k, but it is one of my most prominent teeth and I got it on Interest free credit over 24 months through the private practise in Middleton St George. Chris the dentist and an implant specialist.

Hated the gap, hated the denture almost as much. Now feel much more confident smiling and talking.

I'm in exactly the same boat, just paid 306 for a front denture and wish I'd never bothered, definitely want to get an implant so any advice on here most welcome

I can confirm that is the case. I know my dentist gets to see a lot of issues with implants and bridges done in Turkey but within a few years they are causing problems.

I got implants done about a year and a half ago. 4 implants. Cost me 4 and a half grand in a little village dentist in bedfordshire.

Seems I got a bargain.

The dentist in Yarm who my dentist referred me to has confirmed it will be £2500 . I suppose that will be if its straight forward.
The Smile Clinic are advertising Implants starting at £1800. Gonna give them a ring before making my mind up.

I had mine done in Budapest with all the prep work done in London. I know people will say this when it comes to this kind of thing, but I was astounded at the quality of the clinical setting whilst there. Much nicer that my local dentist. I think it cost me about half of the UK cost but also got a great trip too.
