Dele Alli Interview

You can imagine it's been extremely hard for him, he was basically pinned as the golden boy of English football and when you're form dips we as a country have a terrible habit of being relentlessly horrific in terms of non stop critisism.

I really, really hope he can get back to his best because he's unbeleivable when he's on it.

One of my favourite YouTube channels is Gary Neville's The Overlap.

Hope Dele can rediscover his form he showed back in his Tottenham days. Good to see he feels he can talk about the issues that are making him feel low right now.

Massive respect for him to come out and be open about everything. He is very inspiring to consider what he has been through and to come out the other end and confront his past speaks volumes. The media made him out to have a bad attitude how wrong can you be.I hope his manager and club stick with him and he manages to reunite his career as he has in his personal life. The way he is dealing with it does say alot about his character and with that in mind if anyone can come back after watching that I'm sure he can.

Well that brought a tear to my eye. Sounds like the lad had a horrific childhood that really hampered his ability to deal with the pressures of public life.

Let’s be honest even someone with the most stable upbringing is not designed emotionally to be recognised everywhere they go and go on a rollercoaster of adulation-abuse-pride-guilt-hero worship-vilification. When someone was as broken as Delle and so young it’s no wonder he struggled to stay on the rails.

Another angle i’d like to mention here is that he stated that he did this interview earlier than he wanted to because the press were hounding him when they found out he was in rehab. That is utterly reprehensible and although interesting to the public is not in the public interest and is clearly harmful to someone who is struggling. A free, self-regulating press does not work. We had the opportunity to get independent regulation in place 10-15 years ago and bottled it, but this and the Huw situation highlight that it’s time to bring accountability to the doorstep of the media with massive sanctions for blackmailing people with mental health issues.

I hope Delli can find some stability in his life, and I’m sure his adopted family are going to be right by his side helping him, they sound like great people. Hopefully he can get fit and playing well again and more importantly find his happy place

Well that was a tough and brilliant listen - Well done to Deli for doing that.

I know i have been critical of him over the past few seasons when i have seen him play, it is easy to forget that they maybe footballers and living our dream but they are still a human being behind it all and have had many different life experiences.

I hope he can begin to enjoy his football again at any level and continue to be at peace with himself.

I couldn't agree with you more. I've had to shut the Huw Edwards stuff down at work this morning with people implying his wife has given his name by 'outing him' for the things he has done (not done) rather than her trying to protect him.

I can't understand why people believe what those filthy rags say, after all they hacked a dead child's phone and accused Liverpool fans of ******* on fellow fans bodies. Never mind regulate them, they should be banned.

As been said, you never know for sure what someone is going through, hopefully, this will help him, if nothing else you would hope that it will mean that he doesn't get the same stick he has had in the past.

Wow.

Given his early childhood it's amazing that he has made such a success of his life, despite his recent struggles.

His foster family were obviously very supportive of him, but he comes across as a very humble and intelligent guy.

I hope he can get back to enjoying his footballing talents and that his career gets back on track.

Genuinely believe with his reignited passion a move to a championship club where let's be honest, if he's on his game he's a standout player would be fantastic for him. If Chuba does leave (I'm not saying it ever would happen) Carrick could just be the right man for him, especially with the way he's handled Isiah's situation.
Genuinely want to see the man succeed because for a period of time he was absolutely incredible. You don't just lost that

Watching it now, it shows how bad the media is when portraying individuals (Huw Edwards being the most recent example). Dele's childhood seemed awful and my heart goes out to him. Until recently he just hasn't had the support he has needed, I really hope the support he is getting now helps him, he deserves peace in his life.

Total respect to him for opening up and his honesty in talking about subjects that are difficult for all of us never mind someone with such a high profile and public speculation.

All of us have demons that we try to keep in check and crutches that we use to lean on instead of facing the issues head on, I hope Alli's bravery helps himself and others getting their lives back on track.

The pressure's of life can be overwhelming at times and stories like Alli's should be a stark warning to all of us to be kinder and more understanding to those in the harsh glare of public scrutiny, there are times when we are swans, graceful on the surface but paddling away like hell under the water.

No one can fail to be touched by the interview and I'm sure we all wish Dele Alli all the best for his future and if that involves football then I hope he gets the support and kudos from all supporters his bravery deserves.

That was a tough watch, respect to him for opening up in a world where feelings were something players felt had to be kept locked away or you were seen as weak. Hopefully he receives the care and support he needs moving forward and he regains his mojo for the game.

Football culture, well actually just culture generally on views of the world, on how the world should operate, is rapidly changing for the better too, thanks to younger generations, they understand far more of the rights and wrongs and are proactive in speaking out, more so than mine and other generations were prepared to acknowledge, It gives me some hope for the future of mankind.
