Delay in Spence sale, has cost us pole position in the hunt for top striker target.

Spurs reluctance to meet Middlesbrough’s asking price has had an unwanted knock on effect for the Teessiders hunt for a new marksman. Chris Wilder has put a new goal ace as his top target and boro wanted their number one target at the club for the start of pre season training.

The European hot shot has several clubs across the continent chasing him but has let it be known that he would consider a move to the Championship giants. The move was to be funded by the windfall generated by the young wing backs departure to the capital. Notoriously hard negotiator Daniel Levy, is using Middlesbrough’s need for a quick sale as a bargaining ploy. Reports that Spence had failed a medical earlier in the week for traces of tobacco and a massive chip on his shoulder were wide of the mark.

Spurs are regularly slow starters in the league. Maybe Levy dicking around all summer to save a few million does them more harm than good. I bet the manager would rather their targets arrive early, get acclimatised and can hit the ground running when the season starts.

I never thought we were likely to get 20 million for him hopefully I am
wrong.

I am sure the chairmen is relaxed about things. I am confident we will get a good deal for the player.

Even if we get what we want for Spence it doesn’t mean we will get our first or even second choice striker.

Look forward to seeing him back with his tail between his legs at whitby town. Sure that will have him crying on his knees like at Wembley.

Maybe it was all paper talk and he/we have all got a bit carried away.

Hope we can sell him to a different club. Regardless i dont accept that it is holding up our signing of a forward. If it is then it does not auger well for other significant signings we need or the season ahead. I really hope that we don't kick off with an understrength team/squad.

I'm starting to get extremely bored of the speculation-tastic saga as reported in the media. Spence is off, we'll get between £12-20m, might be next week might be an hour before the transfer window shuts. Pretty sure Wilder and Scott will have scenarios A, B, C covering when he goes, how much and what players are available at the time. May work well for us, our top targets may go elsewhere. Meh. That's football. Going to be a busy few weeks with players in and out, hopefully exiting times👍

I have always thought he wanted to go to London and that his love in with Forest was faux. He may well be in cahoots with DL but he may not be I like most Boro fans know only what we read.

As a club I’m sure we are just working away on deals, it appears the outcome of the deal is more important to us than to Spurs and may well alter who we can afford to try and bring in.

I doubt that there are too many championship clubs getting seriously linked with a £10,000,000 striker.

We just have to be patient and accept we may not be able to spend big on a striker this season.

If there will be players going out it most definitely will be exiting times.
