Decent Tories

:D:D Another sucker who believes all the crap he posts on social media. He has done nothing but feather the beds of his local Tory mates. 😣😫
Hey, read what I said a little bit more carefully - all I said is that he seems to be trying hard on behalf of the local people.

Labour politicians can learn something from this lot - sometimes you have to look like you are trying hard.

Ken Clarke turned into a 10% reasonable man as he's nearing the grave, making peace with the humans is always good to see.

TT has summed up just about every Tory mentioned on this thread. All become a bit more reasonable when approaching their actual or political grave. Every prominent tory on this thread, I can't speak for some of the minor figures, has voted for privatisation, section 28, poll tax, benefit cuts or similar on a regular basis throughout their career. Now they are cuddly Ken, nice John, the lovely Baroness Warsi etc. Hypocrites.

Another shout for Rory Stewart, first heard about him through a couple of books he wrote that were excellent reads. One about his time as a governor in Iraq (Occupational Hazards) and the other about him walking across Afghanistan (The Places In Between) - both highly recommended. Seems a decent sort even if I don’t always agree with him.

Also don’t mind William Hague and a couple of others already mentioned, certainly when compared to what’s come after and including IDS’ time.

I thought Rory Stewart seemed decent, although has left the Tories now ?
I was about to say the same. Rory seemed a decent pragmatic balanced guy.

By decent Tories, I think the criteria is pragmatists that show passion (to improve) and compassion (to not leave people behind). What I've come to realise as I get older is that extreme economic left ideology, ie communism is deemed to be dangerous. However very few people realise that extreme right free market economics is just as dangerous. That's the elephant in the room that we need to address.

It's extreme views, with a lack of pragmatism that are the dangers and they have grown on both sides of the fence, but particularly on teh right. The vaccine is of course Moderatism, which isn't sitting on the fence, it's just pragmatic politics. It's an acceptance that if an increase wealth only improve 25% of peoples lives that isn't good enough. It's a recognition that we can't find every social system, but we should strive to get the foundations right and a minimum standard of support for all British citizens. This view all seems to have been lost in a polarised, entrenched and distancing set of views. We have moved our overton window so far right now, that any attempt to discuss a social policy is deemed as extreme by 20% of the population. Much of this has been stoked by social media and populism, to the point where true democracy is now at risk.

Also don’t mind William Hague
From someone who live in the Richmondshire Constituency William Hague was one of the least effective wettest waste of space MP I've ever seen. Sunak bought the seat....... they'd vote in roadkill round here if it had a blue rosette.

BTW not being able to buy a Covid vaccine..... it doesn't get much more socialist than that.

I think its a shame that some can’t (more likely won’t) name one out of their 364 current MP’s who may well be decent. I am sure that there are several in truth, but it wont suit leanings and personal agendas. Labour has had its fair share of dishonour lately with its own MP’s lets remember, but of course some even deny that. I don’t see why people can’t be gracious and admit that there are probably good and bad MP’s in all party’s, it is just that policy and the whip get in the way more often than not.

tories, then mentions caring?????totally confused, tories and their followers have no compassion for anyone other than themselves

Surely it more likely that the good ones who are current MPs are keeping their heads down in the hope they don't get tarred as being part of Boris gang of B'stards.

My current MP, Damian Green watches porn in his MPs office on a government laptop, gets caught 'red handed', denies it claims he left his laptop unlocked (BS) and someone else did it. Gets his best mate then PM May to protect him, and then tries to discredit the policeman that identified this. By the way I know Bob Quick, met him a few times, a liar he isn't a political player, he's a proper old school law and order type guy. Anyway MP Damian Green, self-serving and spineless.

Heseltine and couple of others from that time. None now.
Ken Clarke was hated by the left when he was health secretary. He was the devil personified during the ambulance strike in 89.
As for Heseltine he presided over the final closing of the coal fields under the premiership of the now apparently decent John Major administering Thatchers final nail in the coffin.
But now because they are pro Europe they are decent are they? Maybe we should remember the likes of Benn(the man of the house not his pathetic son) and Shore, really decent political figures that would now be despised by the liberal left on here for their anti EU stance.

I think this is a very good post. An MP no matter what party is just another person at the end of the day.

Comments like all tories and supports are just selfish is just daft in my view.

Me and Harry have both met the same former Tory MP previously and both stated she was a really nice person and very genuine.

I agree they might be decent human beings, no doubt about that.
The issue is about character. You look at Boris Johnson and scratch below the surface and it’s clear he has nothing.
So, many Tories I’d look at as decent but to stand behind someone like Johnson who is a lying toad basically so in my humble opinion mps lose all credibility backing someone who has no scruples what SO EVER.
Ps. Plenty of labour mps are utter tosh. Diane Abbott for one

I can think of MP's from most parties who were/are utter twots and idiots. I can think of MP's from most parties who were/are decent people. But I cannot, in my 65 years on this planet, think of a Tory who does not put him/herself first, the Tory party second and anyone else last. So the answer to the OP is- no, I cannot think of a decent Tory.
