Dean Windass - Dementia

Boro were great that day even though massively underdogs.
Given the circumstances, playing against peak arsenal, missing half a squad, it was a superb performance. When we beat them twice in the "invincible" season we didn't play as well against a poorer xi. Nor did we the year before when we won 3 nil. If only we had put one or two away. Windass was great. As was Robbie mustoe.

I’ve got his autobiography at home, from Gypsyville to the Premiership. A proper all action striker, stuck his head into the Old Firm goldfish bowl at Aberdeen.

Sad times.

We were excellent that day Michael Debreve’s and Allan Johnstone’s finest hours, didn’t Luke Wilkshire play too? Boksic put in an appearance too having missed the previous four league games and then was ‘injured’ for the rest of the season!

Good honest pro with some brilliant moments in his career.

Wish him all the best, such a young age to get dementia and raises the question again around risk of dementia for footballers.

I think head clashes are just as much to blame as heading. Anyone who has had a head on head collision will know how painful and disorienting they can be and must also have cumulative effect. Loved Windass as a player, proper blood and guts.
