Deal accepted for Morgan Rogers.

This is my concern, people keep pointing to the Brentford/Brighton model but that model to the best of my knowledge was never to sell players 6 months into their deal. It was always one season minimum, mostly two seasons.

If the club are going to identify hidden gems and Carrick is going to coach them into better players and they’re going to be sold mid-season despite being on long-term deals what’s the point? We’re not going to get anywhere with that strategy. I wouldn’t blame him for thinking what’s the point and going elsewhere.
This is my thinking too - it’s making us look like having no ambition and easy prey for anyone who wants our best players

We are easy prey for who wants our best players ,
Much like Everton has to sell Gordon ,
Or Coventry having to sell their two ,
How else do balance the books / match wages ?
You not gonna say you want to move jobs for a 4x pay rise minimum?
Rogers will not of been on a life changing for all around him contract, he is now

Makes us more attractive to new signings though.
If they know we'll be reasonable if a big PL club comes in, they'll be more willing to join us than a club they know would dig their heels in.

We're well ahead of the Brighton/Brentford model. It took them at least a season to polish their gems. We've done it in half the time.

The fee reflects his potential, obviously, rather than the player he is now and in terms of his ceiling he has the physical attributes, the mentality and the ability to make that fee seem like a good deal for Villa.

But that's not guaranteed and its figures we can't afford to turn down in my view - the fact that he's earned the club between £9-15m in such a short space of time for me is a very conspicuous sign that our recruitment was exceptional in this case.

Hopefully we see that replicated with many more young singnings.

Had a decent short period 16m if true is a great deal we have to balance the books the longer we are in the championship.Get a decent player for a fraction of the price to replace him.

I’ve seen this spouted a lot on here of late, so is the new mantra…as it makes no sense.

Join us and you can leave as soon as you like. err that’s a great attitude to have.

I’m not commenting on Roger’s as he’s gone but I’m certainly not punching the air like some in here. I support Middlesbrough fc I could care less about Villa or Bournemouth.

It’s a worrying trend to sell so early on when other clubs around us have not done so despite bigger offers.

I wonder if Boro were savvy enough to say to Villa , Ok we realise you can't go past 8m upfront now in this transfer window given your ffp so therefore give us that now and 3m of the 7m add-ons are purely time based. ie next 3 transfer windows just give us 1m a time. After that and only after that do we start getting into appearance numbers , goal numbers , England caps add-ons whatever. That for me , would mean a more balanced deal, but at the moment with just 8m take MC 2m and remove our initial 1.5m we are just 4.5 net gain on the deal .

Sky are reporting the fee could rise to £16 million .
Exactly it’s 10m with another 6 of potential add ons. I hear that these are very achievable add ons and the relatively low initial price is so that Villa don’t break ffp

We look like a club who sells our players if our valuation is met. Which is exactky what we are. We've proven that over the last 4 or 5 seasons.

More likely trophies and leagues and caps won so will prob not see most of it.

I hope so because the “clauses” in Spences deal were laughable.

Spurs will reportedly pay an initial fee of £12.5 million ($14.8m) to bring Spence to north London, with a further £7.5m ($9m) potentially due in add-ons if certain clauses are met.

Morgan Rogers has produced several of the best bits of skill we’ve seen this season.
His first touch, vision and execution to create goals against Millwall and Rotherham were Premier League class.

However, he is not good enough to be in our starting eleven when everyone is fit.

Nevertheless, it’s a shocking bit of business to accept a deal that quadruples the cost of signing him in six months.

But the deal creates a profit that is equivalent to the sum of our financial losses last year, revealed in our recently published accounts.

What is the point of signing these young players and watching them struggle for consistency and then sell them on as soon as a Premier League club comes calling?

Our useless recruitment team don’t know what they are doing!

Because we have let Rogers go, we will now have to buy someone, before the window closes, with just two days to go, otherwise we will only have signed that young lad we brought in to replace him, a fortnight ago!

Be prepared (not a Villa pun) because we will lose more young players over the next year or so, as soon as PL club offers us a wedge; and we will then have to go and buy a load of other young players to replace them!

We haven’t got a clue, a plan, or any chance of going up!

Keiron Scott?! Keiron Sh!te more like!

We should be looking to emulate Brighton, Bournemouth, Brentford and the other clubs who have been promoted recently.

We shouldn’t be getting in talented young players, giving them match experience and watching them improve and then selling them for a profit and recycling the money.

It all goes straight into Gibbo’s pocket anyway!

Poor Michael Carrick. We’ll lose him. He’ll get fed up of this!

You can’t build a team that plays entertaining, skillful technical football if you keep selling your best players and then going out and buying more!

Pullis and Warnock wouldn’t put up with this. Nor Wilder!

Carrick is useless, man!!!
nurse, someone’s had an accident, can we get them a clean mattress and sheets

That’s quite a bizarre take on it but whatever 🤣

It could be anything from appearances or goals to international caps or club honours.

I would hope that Middlesbrough have been savvy enough to link the add ons to appearances opposed to Villa winning trophies. In that scenario, if he turns into the £20m+ player people seem so confident he will, then we will have gained £16m for a player we paid £1.5m.

If he flops we've still got £10m which is absolute top end of his current value.

Well done MFC 👏🏻

This is a player who's probably had 10-15 good games for Boro. Not a player who is irreplaceable

As I said my issue is not losing Roger’s it’s the worry that others will follow for similar tepid deals. How can you build anything on such temporary ground.

It's not really. When it comes to signing youth, a young player (and his agent) will look at things like this. If Boro got a reputation for turning down good valid offers from PL clubs and players were missing opportunities, we would be looked at unfavourably in future.

That doesn't mean take the first offer every time, but it does mean setting realistic valuations and accepting offers if it's met.
