In blocking his run it doesn't necessarily mean he intended to cause the injuries he did.

It happens in every game, at all levels and it was purely back luck that caused the severity of the injuries.

Football is all about opinions and I disagree with you on this one.

In my opinion on re-watching the footage again, Rüdiger intentionally raises his arm (elbow?) when he blocks his run. That's the behaviour of a coward, if would be frowned upon even in ice hockey.

To be fair I haven't watched it back, other than during the game, so you could well be right.
