Boro v Sunderland not as big a game as when Leeds come to Teesside 🤔

Wonder if that was on the autocue or her own personal opinion?

'Not a game that perhaps inspires quite as much passion as the Tyne Wear Derby or a Middlesbrough Leeds match'

I thought it was a pleasant change that our game got mentioned first, then she started the second sentence and I turned it off.

Why on earth would you say that other than to belittle the importance of the game. Maybe Rob should have a word

weird and controversial coment that didnt add anything to the introduction .. its an average EFL game then

She may have been mischievous. And she's in a solidly Toon household, so it's no surprise that she says it doesn't have the same frisson as a Tyne/Wear derby.

She's been reading the message boards and knows how to wind up certain sections of fans.

The continual strive for exceptionalism hasn't bypassed her.

It’s a nonsense comment. I’ve been going to watch Boro for 30-odd years and games against Sunderland have always been derbies. I have no idea where these attempts to try and pretend it isn’t have come from and why people persist with them.

I wouldn’t get too uptight about it. Saw it and she was definitely talking off the cuff in her intro. Said something like Tees Wear Derby maybe not as intense as the Tyne Wear derby and then you could see she panicked a bit and needed to make a balancing comment so threw in the rather daft Leeds Boro comparison.
