Darwin Nunez headbutt

Did you not see the reason Anderson pushed him to begin with he deliberately through his head back to try and catch him on the face, thankfully he missed but that was as clear as day and put together you can see he meant both quite clearly.

No, I didn’t see the initial incident, only the red card moment on YouTube this morning. As I said above, his previous attempt put a different complexion on it all and he was right to get a red and I was wrong to give him the benefit of the doubt.

To be fair it was my bad id started writing the reply put my phone down for abit then pressed send a bit later while in the meantime there was a couple more posts including your previous reply I hadn’t seen.

Yeah he definitely tried something similar a few seconds earlier which is why the defender pushed Nunez to cause the actual sending off offence.

Stupidest thing about it was Nunez alerted the referee to what was going on and then proceeded to nut him 🤷‍♂️

I’m going to get pelters here I reckon, but honestly, I thought he just squared up, chest puffed, tensed, to someone much taller than him. Yes he made contact, but I honestly didn’t think it was that bad. In fact, on first viewing I thought it was handbags 🤷🏻‍♂️
I doubt most of us on here would have felt much pain from that, let alone fallen over.
For me, there is a question mark over whether he was just doing the instantaneous tough guy squaring up thing, or whether he genuinely did mean to headbutt somebody on their chin?
Im with you. The bloke shouldn't have laid his hand on him and when you do that's what you get. He just squared up to him. What was the other players punishment?

"Of course it was a red, he was provoked but that is not how he should behave," said Klopp.

"It was not a reaction we want to see. He knows he will be challenged in this way, centre-halves will do that, but it is not a reaction we want.

Klopp not making any excuses for him, apart from he was provoked, and defenders are going to do that to him.

Why not just say it was a clear red and we will speak to him about the standards we expect?

I thought it was a perfectly good response by Klopp - "we will leave him alone and I'll talk to him tomorrow"

I agree with that bit, just didn't see the need to say it was a red and then immediately 'he was provoked', then follow that up with 'defenders are going to that to him'. This after Nunez had three attempts to get snidey little headbutts in, in about forty seconds.

Just say it was a red, totally unacceptable and we'll speak to him.

Andersen absolutely had his number there. To call it "provocation" is rather silly. I find it hard to believe that he has never come across defending like that before? I can't say that I watch much/any Portugese domestic football but Uruguay is hardly well known for it's gentlemanly approach to the beautiful game!

Watching it I was a little disappointed in Palace's response after the equaliser, at times it looked like they were a man down not Liverpool. Is that how much better the top clubs are than the rest? That they can match and arguably out perform a mid table side with only ten on the pitch? Scary.

The gap between the top clubs and others is bigger now that 5 subs can be made.

Outperform yes but not win to be fair.

Palace definitely rode their luck at times with Liverpool's poor finishing but I felt they held their shape well and defended well as a team. Zaha could (and should) have won it with the shot that glanced the post. Very good counter attacking display by Palace.

I personally think Nunez will be fortunate to escape further punishment, it was an ugly headbutt and whilst Anderson was rightly booked for the provocation (itself provoked by an attempted headbutt only seconds previous) it's been a while since we've seen a player effectively assault another so brazenly.

Probably because he’s 23, it was his full debut and they’ve spent £85m on him.

Yep, incredibly professional job done there by Andersen. Basically get tight, get physical and mouth off at him and he'll bite.

Did VAR give the red by the way? Didn't look like the ref saw it in the video above? If so, very quick decision. (y)

Ref gave it.

He was about 3 foot away looking directly at Nunez. Couldn't have had a better view.

Nunez was thick as pig sh!!t

He attempted to headbutt him backwards in the challenge that led to the red card. It was a headbut and the ref had to send him off.
