Darren Bond - should be reffing League 2 next week

People already complain about the size of our gates. Imagine what it will be like when people stop going because of VAR.
Most people I talk to think VAR is good, I wouldn’t take one or two noisy people on this forum threatening to nuke VAR from outer space (I ask you….) as any indication that Boro fans will start to boycott the games. Use of technology does not seem to affect gates in the premier league.

How can trying to get the correct decisions in a match be in any way a bad thing?

I don't disagree that the quality of refereeing is inconsistent at best but there's a lot of sour grapes here.

The ref is the lead in a team of people charged with officiating the game. The linesman calls the line and made the mistake on the disallowed goal. The Greenwood incident (if referring to the coming together with keeper) wasn't a pen for me but I can't defend the push on Jones.

The reality is that we should be moving the ball quickly and not allowing them the time to get all players behind the ball. Those things relating to ref decisions happen to all teams across the season and have done forever.

We can all ask and hope for better quality when it comes to officiating. I think the club should make representations about some of the mistakes made for sure. But would you want to swap what we have for the farce that is VAR?

Not for me
100% yes.

It's not about getting the right decision. The age it takes ruins the spectacle - it's bad enough on TV, but absolutely ruinous live.

No I agree but isn’t that just the refs involved trying to get rid of it? It’s almost like a rebellion, look you can have us check these decisions off pitch but instead of a split second instant decision we are going to pontificate over it for a few minutes just like the Sky pundits do.

So you can have it if you want but it’s up to you…..

I think it’s fairly obvious they are being difficult with it, there may even be an invisible group behind the scenes involved for all we know.

I'm no purist, but the idea of a goal going in, and then we all pause for 90 seconds to confirm that there's no tiny infraction in the move leading to the goal? Makes me shudder personally.

I'd rather take the ups and downs of mistakes being made

That's the big problem I have. The ball goes in and, as you jump up, you check for the lino's flag. Sorted.

I understand that but the refs are so bad that we need something to be done and I’m not looking for perfection just getting it generally right would be a big step forward.

I can’t believe there was only 5 minutes added on. The subs alone must have been 3-4 minutes added. Rotherham players went down and wasted time throughout the second half.

Goal Kicks / Throw ins, constantly wasting time and he just let them get away with it.

PL referees this year have been applying more time added on for time wasting. This doesn’t ever seem to be replicated in The Championship.

He looked ready for home after ensuring Rotherham had got something from the match.

After minimising the time added on he blew up right on time before we could launch another attack.

Absolutely blatant in my view.

The ref was dreadful.

Part of football is moaning about refereeing decisions. Now VAR is here people don’t moan about refs, they moan about VAR. Football fans moan a lot when they don’t get the result they want. It’s just life.

But that ref was shocking. Foul on Jones was a minimum yellow. Goal was onside. We should have had a penner. He cost us the game.

Its absolutely not "one or two noisy people on this forum". That is utterly ridiculous and completely wrong, the above survey interviewed thousands of fans and less than 25% want to keep VAR.

in this survey 95% said that VAR had made Football less enjoyable.

One or two noisy people my ar***.

Hah hah, fair point, but the survey generally indicates that it’s the implementation of VAR which is the problem, maybe apart from the spontaneous goal celebration bit.

I wonder which anti VAR lobby group was behind the survey?!

I don’t see 45% empty seats in the premier league do you?

One point not considered is the deterrent effect on cheats of the VAR system, its harder to cheat when things are reviewed.

VAR has a lot to commend it 👍

Only dealt with VAR live once. England V Holland in porto for the nations league semi final. Carnage when Lingaard scored some great limbs, only for it to be taken away by VAR.

Imagine that happening in first leg vs chelsea when hackney scores.
Out!

It was survey and a bloody big one 33,000 people conducted by a group representing ordinary Football fans. So nobody important.😉

I'm not sure it does discourage cheating because it's implemented in such a binary way that if an attacker gets the tiniest of touches they know if they go down VAR will give a penalty.

You might not see them empty seats yet, but it's coming.

But I agree that it could work, if we just removed the humans and used purely technology, bit like ball tracker in cricket.
