Darlo escape

When they had a league side Darlo got reasonable crowds 3000 or so for Fourth tier football. They had a manager and team with a few ex Boro connections (Matty Appleby, Craig Liddle) and just missed out on promotion.

Unfortunately they’ve had a succession of rough owners. Reynolds’ Folly was a millstone round the neck they couldn’t have made viable and the cycle continued.

NPL might be a better place for them until they sort themselves out…

They built a new stand at Feethams not long before moving out of the town centre, just makes the whole stadium thing even more baffling especially now they are looking to build a new stadium smaller than Feethams (which will probably never get off the ground)

They'd still be in the league if they'd stayed there. Having said that, the incoming chairman (whoever it may have been) after Idiot George may have fleeced them.

It was a great little ground back in the day.
How many squeezed in for FA cup replay with us? 15k , possibly more?

I remember being there for two weeks in the reserve team in 1990 when Brian Little was manager and Frank Gray was his assistant. That was when they won the 4th Division.

Now if sunderland v middlesbrough isnt a derby (according to some of them up the road) im pretty sure Darlington v Scarborough isnt!

Darlo lost both games over xmas and only took 2-300 on boxing day after selling out the away end last season

I read Craig Stoddart’s Darlo review of the year in the Darlo and Stockton yesterday.

In this modern era of cushy relationships between clubs and Journos it’s a scathing review of how Darlo have gone from the verge of the National league to the Northern Premier League in a year. Good read.

His ability to express cynicism goes beyond the written form.

Played a game in centre mid next to him once when I was much younger and he absolutely bollocxed me at every opportunity and told me I couldn’t pass a ball.

Two minutes later I cut their team in half with one ball to put a lad through on goal and he duly finished off what turned out to be the winner.

Told me after it was a fluke 😂

The opposition were once calling him Jesus all game and he sparked a bloke out in the end, straight off, didn’t even bother looking at the ref.

Sound is, Stodd. Canny player and honest journo 👍

String a few results together and they can get out of it, there’s lots of teams struggling financially in that league.
