Left Leicester, after winning the league and playing for England and in the Champions League, and basically retired at the age of 26. Earns £100k a week, but what a waste of a footballing career! Now on loan at a mid-table Turkish club. I know he's had a couple of injuries but nothing major.

Bizarre move this afternoon but at the same time never shocked me. Strange career he’s has since Leicester.

Chelsea move was a bad idea but the money they offered him he'd be daft to say no
Can understand why he took the big contract at Chelsea, but I just hope it also serves as a lesson for people offered the same. It really doesn't always work out and whilst I'm sure the money is a big consolation, I bet he'd have rather had one sportscar less and a few more England caps.

Whereas Jamie Vardy chose to reject Arsenal's cash and remain at Leicester where he was happy (albeit with a new and better contract, but not (allegedly) what Arsenal were offering)

Was he really that good during the title winning season or was he made to look better than he was by the likes of Kante, Mahrez and Vardy? Often players are found out when they're in a partnership and the other, much better player leaves.

Not on the same level, but look at Wheater with Woodgate/Huth for us.

Many players look at the golden streets of the big clubs, so often from a career point of view they would have been better staying well and firmly put.
It depends what's the driving force, career or money, greed

I know what you mean, but I'd imagine on his deathbed he'll not even be thinking about the fact he had a football career.
Sorry should have worded it betterit’s more the phrase used when someone reflects on their life

I won’t be on my death bed thinking I wish I did more to earn money, I’ll be wishing I cherished moment and lived more in the moment no doubt

I always find this a tough one and hard to criticise anyone who does it. You must believe in yourself to be pro and if a club like Chelsea come in offering you silly money, you must think 'they believe in me, I'll have a bit of that.' I think it is different if you know you are going to sit on the bench week in and week out.

Plus, they'll be building statues and naming stands after him soon. In fact he'll probably be regarded as the greatest player in the history of the club.

Without doubt. Vardy will definitely go down as the all time great for Leicester City, eclipsing Lineker & Banks IMO. He'll even go down as one of the all time Premier League greats. Shame he never got spotted a lot earlier in his career because I think he'd have a lot more trophies/medals and records to show for his talent. Fair play for refusing to go to Arsenal too! That pretty much cements his legendary status at Leicester.

As for Drinkwater, I remember his loan spell at Barnsley when we were both in the Championship and I wanted us to sign him then after watching a couple of his games. He was incredible for them. I think that's what prompted the move to Leicester.

He was a big part of Leicester's success from the Championship to Title winners.

It's a shame his career has took a huge nose dive because just before his transfer to Chelsea, I thought he was a great player and a future regular England international. Goes to show how quick a career can change.

I'm never sure on this, it is very difficult to look at something like a player taking the money when looking from the eyes of a passionate fan or a calculating pro who is just a worker who is looking to maximize his salary.

His next game for Leicester or Chelsea he could have picked up a career ending injury. He wouldn't be wishing he'd stuck by Leicester then.

Each to their own, plenty of people criticize Shearer and le Tissier for not having the will or bottle to go to a really big club and retiring with a cabinet full of silverware. Some think they did the right thing playing for their club.

Me personally, I left the military to pursue more money (and freedom to live where I wanted) in the offshore field, on good years I probably earn triple my old salary.

I won't look back with any regrets in my dotage as I know I've provided a better life and more stable financial future for my family.

I don't see why footballers should be judged any differently to be honest.

Probably less risk of being sent to war if he'd stayed at Leicester than you had. So it's not totally the same! :)

You could've replaced Drinkwater with a number of other similarly talented players in that midfield and still come out with the same result. Same can't be said of Kante.
