Under Warnock he was the main man in defence and he couldn't stop singing his praises about his reliability and class but just wondering where he fits into our new setup?
In a three man central defence we have Lenihan seemingly first choice in the centre, Djksteel looking good on the right and are trying to buy in a first choice for the left (Greaves).
It wasn't too long ago Burnley were offering £10m pounds for him that most were shouting down as way too low, would we accept it now?
If he becomes a squad player or we are trying to move him on I can't see there being too many suitors to offer us £10m plus for his services if he's not a first choice in the team, there again Djed Spence......

He’s too good to be a squad player. I know fans have different opinions, but if Greaves comes in he starts with fry in the centre and Lenihan on the right for me. Dijksteel is a favourite of mine and key to our style with overlapping CB’s but I believe that Greaves will offer us the same on the left

Being totally honest I don't think we're going to sign Greaves.

I think we stuck a £5m bid in to see how Hull would react, if they said yes... It's a bonus because we've got another one of the best young CBs in the league (he's only 21), low wages, resale value...
If they said no, we've still got enough first team CBs to cover all three positions in Fry/Lenihan/Dijksteel/McNair, and probably only need to add a cheaper Peltier-type squad player.

I'd keep hold of him to see how Lenihan goes. If he's better than Fry then Fry's on the bench if a decent left sided defender comes in. McNair looked out of place on the left side of the defence but he's a great utility man to have in the squad. If we're going to challenge for a top two spot they're the calibre of player we need in the squad

Warnock's opinion doesn't make it fact and let's face it, the wind blew his tongue about in all directions.

I agree he should be first choice and Djksteel also deserves his place in the starting line up. I wish we would focus our efforts on trying to find a replacement for Tav rather than spending lots of energy and money on finding another centre half.
As a previous poster said we just need to add a centre half as cover not another first teamer that will cost £5m and reduce our spending power for the positions that need most attention.

It's a tough one.

He's a great centre back, but I can't see Lenihan being on the bench after we've brought him in on a long term contract and Wilder has spoken so much about needing leaders in the side.

Fry is rubbish on the left, and Dijksteel is excellent lately, so there's only really one position where he fits for me and it's Lenihan's.

I think Fry is too good a player to be stuck on our bench, so the issue could come to a head at some point.

I can say with almost 100% confidence djiksteel will not be on the bench - feel free to bookmark this 😅
Agreed - with this system of three CBs with the wide ones overlapping, Dijksteel is the only one that completely suits that wider CB position. Makes zero sense to be talking about anyone but him being the RCB starter.

I don't think the club just look at one position at a time, do you?

As has been said, Fry is too good for our bench, what concerns me is his injury record. To that end I would be inclined to cash in on him.
.

I agree there's only marginal benefit of getting someone like greaves in compared to the benefit of spending that money on a decent midfielder where we are desperately short.

Kortney Hause on loan or buy would fill the LCH spot .
Yoann Barbet is without a club and proven , he could suit .

I noticed that the Gazette gave Fry 7 for his first half on Sunday compared to Lenihan’s 5. It sounds like they like me didn’t agree with Fry’s pulling at half time.
He was the best player in last year’s solid defence and for me we should be building our defence around him. It appears Wilder doesn’t agree despite our shaky start this year. It’s a pity since he loves playing for Boro but would seem like his days here are numbered.
