Cyclists on the pavement

Cyclists coming onto the pavements is an absolute disgrace. The threat posed to honest e-scooterists is very real and one which should be addressed immediately.

it's only cyclists on this very thread who have admitted to breaking the law and argued they are allowed to.

One I think, rather than "cyclists" ?

Besides, it just means that the drivers are liars, or we just have the most well behaved subsection of drivers on here and none of the hundreds of thousands (millions?) of people who have committed a driving offence.

That doesn't correspond with the defending of riding through red lights, nor the stories of cyclists on pavements as mentioned in the OP.

I used to cycle commute to work through the centre of London. For a couple of months I decided to do an experiment and see every time I saw a road user breaking the law. I', ashamed to say that in 95% of cases, it was a cyclist breaking the law.
Never seen a driver going over a red light then?
Or cars parked so far on the pavement people in wheelchairs end up going around them in the road.
Or cars parked in "disabled" driver parking spaces.
Or cars parked on double yellow lines"
etc
etc
etc
etc

Two, if you consider the "arguing against", half of the sentence. I admire you cyclist and your defence of your art, including the breaking the red light law. I've made this mistake on Twitter, upsetting a cyclist is worse than upsetting a brexiteer.

That's probably why cyclists have such a bad reputation when you think about it.

Yes to all of those.

Not sure what your point is?

I don't know why I'm arguing with someone who is a known troll across multiple boards, but can you point me to where I've defended breaking the red light law.

Cheers

Loads of cycle / footpath lanes up in Coulby / Marton..... red'ish is for cycles & loads of people walk on the cycle lane & worse with dogs on 10m leads...

Cyclists should slow down & either shout a warning or have a bell if using mixed paths or very close... though what they really need is proper cycle paths & routes.. my car stuffed up the other morning & I could have cycled to work - 17m - but the route looked like a game of snake....

All new roads should have a dedicated & separate cycle path along side & new estates more footpaths & cycle paths.. come the revolution ;-)

Theres nowhere I need to go that quick thats worth hurting. Its someone going home or to work thats all.
Amount of times I've had someone overtake me aggressively/dangerously, purely because they don't want to slow down for 20 seconds to wait for it to be safe, only to then pass them moments later at the traffic lights while we both wait at a red, is in the hundreds I reckon.

I bet it really annoys them when I don't run the red light too, bet they tell their friends I do though :)

That's called confirmation bias. Plus the majority of law breaking by drivers of motor vehicles is hidden/accepted.

For example at a t-junction the light goes amber, a few drivers put their foot down & exceed the speed limit to get there before it goes red, as it goes red, one driver goes through as they know the phase of the lights & cars won't be emerging from the side road yet. The HGV driver stops and has defective eyesight. The cyclists stop. Coming out the side road, the taxi driver is over the limit from the night before, one of the drivers has been checking twitter while stopped at the lights, is slow putting the phone down & still has it in their hand as they make the turn. An 'all cross' pedestrian phase of the lights starts & one of the cyclists goes as there is no one crossing in front of them. Everyone goes 'bloody scofflaw cyclists'.

Lol! :ROFLMAO:
Drivers are killing 5 people a day.
456 pedestrians were killed in 2018 and on average one pedestrian death every 10 days is due to the driver going on the pavement.

But it is the threat from e-scooterists that is keeping you up at night. Get a grip.

Cyclists want all the room in the world on the road.
They’re more than happy to cycle on the shoulder of pedestrians in the parks though.
