An interesting read in the Sunday Times this morning about the most powerful lunatic in the country.
No matter what you think of him, this article gives an insight into the conflict and chaos that seems to surround him, in part no doubt manufactured deliberately by the man himself.
Is he an evil nutter or is he a misunderstood genius bizarrely trying to make the world a better place?
I still can’t really get close to understanding what he’s all about.

Looking forward to his appearance before the health and science select committee on Wednesday. Could it be the beginning of the end for Johnson?

I bet the problem the Tories have is finding somebody who wants to inherit the mess.

The pandemic is far from over, inflation is rising, mass unemployment is down the line and taxes will inevitably have to be raised.

And Johnson will ride away into the sunlit uplands with 45% of the electorate thinking he was a great guy.....

The article just goes to increase the mystery and contradictions around DC. He is said to be more in touch with what's going on in the country than the government, but at the same time, he lacks self awareness. In front of the committee, he will have to somehow avoid sounding like a disgruntled former employee
He once shared a flat with Liam Halligan. I didn't know that.

2020: "Look, Dom's a decent guy. What he did was entirely reasonable. I trust his word implicitly, and so should you."
2021: "He's a liar! You can't believe a single word he says about me!"

What a difference 12 months and perspective makes!

AKA 'Inside the tent p***ing out' vs 'Outside the tent p***ing in'

To be fair it works both ways.

Those that didn’t believe him then will want to believe him now.

Maniac and not a genius. He is actually right in most of his low opinions of politicians, the civil service and the media.

How is he right in his low opinion of the civil service? He doesn't like it because it provides checks and balances and is impartial. As opposed to telling ministers what they want to hear. He sees it as inconvenient.

Definitely things it can do better, but was ranked best in the world in 2019 (last time they did rankings). Usually just a lazy assumption that it's poor based on stereotypes and the fact it's a convenient scapegoat for the government. A scapegoat that can't answer back.

Quite right. I know a few highly capable people working for Local Authorities. In fact, the Civil Service is full of them. They deserve credit not criticism for ***** like Cummings.

One cabinet minister fretted that Cummings could use the cloak of parliamentary privilege to disclose confidential information about key discussions last year – including potentially handing over documents, something Cummings has suggested he is prepared to do........

In a recent tweet highlighting the health impact of Covid, Cummings wrote: “Many thousands will have serious health problems for years because of our failure to act faster/harder in Feb/March & Sep”........

The government’s border policies throughout the pandemic are also likely to be examined: Cummings recently described them as a “joke”..........

As one senior Tory who sympathises with Cummings put it: “The truth is, Dom is right on a lot of these issues: there was advice to lock down earlier, and that wasn’t taken, and ultimately that’s a matter for the prime minister......

“But with all of these things, it’s the narrative: and the overall narrative now is how we have come out of this. The public don’t want to hear it: that’s the blunt truth.”

I thought you had to be a member of one of the 2 houses to have parliamentary privilege. Could be wrong like.

I know someone who was in some of those early COBR meetings and he said at the time herd immunity was definitely the plan at first and a reason why we were so slow ramping up track and trace (if you're going for herd immunity, what's the point).

By the time it became evident T&T was needed we'd missed the boat, it was too widespread.
