Craig Farrell RIP

Saw this story this morning, that Craig Farrell has passed away. If it’s the same one I’m thinking of then he was a Boro lad who used to go to St Anthony’s, and someone I played football with at Southlands on occasion back in the day. He was an absolutely fantastic young talent. Him and Craig James both came out of Anthony’s at the same or very similar time and both had good careers, coming through the Leeds and Sunderland youth set-ups.

RIP.

Very sad news. He was at Boro as a youth (the club have posted their condolences) but he played for Cleveland Juniors and Marton as a kid. I will have no doubt played against him and think he will have played with the older teams.

It’s quite mad to think of how many lads came off those estates to make it in the professional game. Stewy was in the year below me at school, though already playing with the older players. That bit of Boro has produced a fair number of pros, going right back to Proctor I suppose. Robbie Blake came off our estate just before the likes of Farrell and James broke through.

Had no idea Farrell was on the books at Boro though.

Stephen Bell, Peter Beagrie,.Stampy, Dael Fry, Chris Kamara off the top of my head.

It says in the Gazette he went to Hallgarth but I was sure he went to Anthony’s at one point. Might be mistaken with that. Definitely remember him from around the age of 15, 16 though. One of those lads that everyone just *knows* is going to make it as a pro from a very young age.

Worked with Craig not long ago, lovely lad,did some scouting for Chris Wilder who he spoke very highly of.
