Covid Tests for Entry to USA

I am after some advice please on the type of test I need to do the day before I travel to the USA for work and was wondering if anybody had completed theirs or booked a test in the near future. What type and where it can be done the day before and the results known before flying to the States the next day (12 noon)?

I am arguing with my colleague that a LFT will be sufficient so we could use Teesside Airport testing but he is saying that a PCR Test is required with a 24 hr turnaround.

The problem with Teesside Airport Testing for the PCR test is that they use the 17:00 cut off the day before as the start time and not 24 hours from the test time. This means that we probably wont get the results until after noon the next day and will therefore not be able to travel.

Any advice based on recent experience of flying to the States would be most appreciated as our HR Team told us to check the website and we cannot agree on the answer?

Thanks in advance

You can use an antigen lateral flow from approved Government provider. I used the one from Qured two days ago... self-test. No problems.

You have one full day before the day you depart to conduct the test and get the results. Qured self test took 2 hours to get my certificate through email once I uploaded the test on to their app.

Can be rapid antigen or PCR, but cannot be an NHS lateral flow. It has be either be done with a medical person in attendance or on a video call with one observing.

Was booked to go last week, a supervised LFT is sufficient, good news as your return tests have just changed, you are no longer required to do a LFT 2days before flying home and as I can fathom out they have changed the regulations to allow an LFT 2 days after you land instead of a PCR .

I did my own test unsupervised, and a bunch of my friends did the same thing they do not check the 'live' element of the test. Although those are the official rules

I must say Ayresome that sounds like a pretty crap HR dept. you've got there. I'd be expecting significantly better support and guidance.

I agree BoroFur but as mentioned in some of the replies above, the rules are changing every other day and we have people travelling across the world so HR just do not have the people to check the rules every day for all of the staff. I would have been happy if they had confirmed my view but they will not accept any responsibility and have put it on us.

Thanks to everybody who has replied.
I am going to book a supervised LFT at Teesside Airport on the Saturday with a 2 hour turnaround for results. I was hoping this was the case but it is great to get the help of the board with experience of travelling recently. It is really appreciated (y).

Where are you going in the USA?

You do it by the book going into the States, because if they find out at immigration all you‘ll here is THUD as they stamp ”INAD” into your passport!!
Believe it. When my son finished university, he went to play semi-pro football in Australia for 6 months. We did warn him not to stay any longer, otherwise he'd overstay his green card limit. Of course he didn't listen and was 2 days over when he returned. It took him hours to get through immigration and it took us months to get it all sorted out.
