Coventry v Wigan postponed.

I wonder if the EFL are looking at regulation breaches with this?

Without reading the guideline handbook, I'd imagine there's a stipulation that each EFL club must provide a suitable and adequate playing environment for league games to be played in line with the season schedule.

They need a new pitch but Wasps (the landlords) don’t want to pay anything and also are close to going bust unless they get a big grant from the local council. Not looking good for Cov and the EFL will have to step in sooner or later.

Whole situation is farcical. Coventry knew that Commonwealth games Rugby Sevens games were being played, but were assured by Wasps that the pitch would be ok for the start of the season (not sure they had a legal guarantee, but they have a tenancy agreement), so expect repercussions here. As someone else said Wasps are losing money, they give away a lot of free tickets (have been on some myself). They have also had several concerts there this summer, which can't have helped the pitch either but will have made some money!

The whole stadium issue is a political hot potato, as Coventry owners have been trying to get it on the cheap from the council for years, since previous owners sold their share back to the council. Indeed it's probably the only reason the investors got involved in the club in the first place. Council, understandably, accepted Wasps offer for the stadium, as it was much better than anything the football club have ever offered. Since then Coventry have ground shared with both Northampton and Birmingham due to strained relationships with Wasps and council. A real mess and another reason to be thankful that we have a decent owner!

👍🏻

Sevens rugby would do far less damage to a pitch than the 15 a side game too.

I'd love to have a look at their pitch to see why the games are being called off.
As I alluded to above there's probably more to this than meets the eye given the fractious relationships between Wasps and Coventry. Aren't Bristol Bears owned by the same fella as owns City?

It is an absolute joke. Regardless of their agreement with Wasps, they are currently not able to fulfil their league fixtures. Other clubs have had big fines and points deductions for less. Mind others have also got away without anything.

And, its a good point that they will now get to play a number of home games after the transfer window has closed, and could be in a much stronger position.

What a mess. Where does the responsibility rest? Do the Commonwealth Games organisers have a duty to return the facilities in the same state. Looks like Wasps have really messed up. Coventry City fans are always stuck in the middle.

Brentford are sharing with London Irish, who have just moved there from Reading's ground. Wigan's ground is used for both football and rugby, the same happens in Huddersfield.

There's definitely something amiss, as you say.
