Country music

It's not proper country unless the singer is wearing a hat/boots combo and there's a fair amount of twangy guitar. Dwight Yoakam fits the bill nicely.

Although I was aware of him before, sadly it took his death last year for me to really appreciate the genius of John Prine. Ended up being my most listened to artist on Spotify last year.

So many to chose from but given the isolation we are all going through at the moment, particularly the elderly this seems a suitable choice

Went through a country phase in 2000. Tend to like female singers. Not the normal names but Chalee Tenison, Lee Ann Womack, Sara Evens, and Terri Clark Fearless by Terri Clark is still my favorite country album

I stumbled across Country through Spotify a few years ago after always favouring rock/alternative/indie... I would now say Country is my go-to genre.
Unfortunately the perception of Country music in the UK is still the stereotypical cowboy/western theme
Luke Combs is one of the biggest artists at the minute and well worth a listen. Ashley McBryde is also great!

Agree on Lake Combs. I had tickets to country 2 country in which he was headlining last year. Sadly given it was due to take place the day before the start of Lockdown 1.0 unsurprisingly the plug was pulled. If it survives (it almost certainly won't happen this year)
I recommend country to country for anyone slightly interested in the scene. Given its mix of big stars and smaller bands in satellite stages it's a great place to get into country or listen to artists you hadn't heard of before.

I was gutted when he was the Sunday headliner as couldn't make it in London - so we decided to go to C2C Amsterdam the weekend before to see him... What a decision that turned out to be!!
I am sure you are aware of 'The Long Road' festival? Bit more low key to C2C and crucially happens in Sept so could still happen.

Agree about Luke Combs, Beer Never Broke My Heart is an anthem! Has anyone checked out Jess Thristan? She's an up and coming country singer from Halifax and is brilliant.

Somebody picked Iris and somebody else picked John Prine RIP.
So what better than the two of them together?

In spite of ourselves
