Thought about it for a while, it's something that's interested me but im quite anti-establishment, not sure if I could keep my mouth shut.

Go for it. They’ll tell you about code of conduct and what have you if you get in.

Always fancied Revenue and Customs myself, doing Drug raids and stuff

I thought about it before I took up my current role, I would have had to make a lot of sacrifices due to the starting salary.

They are paid a pittance for what they do.

I couldn't, I'm too old and fat now.
When I was 20 I did get accepted for the Met, but changed my mind and didn't bother. Sliding Doors and all that ......

Always fancied the fire service rather than the police.

But like Quicksilvera said above, starting wage is so low I'd struggle to make it work, at least initially.

Also, my mate who is in fire service described a car accident he'd had to attend in some detail and it got me thinking about some of awful scenes they must come across. Not sure I'd be mentally strong enough to deal with that.

I could but I wouldn't. Mate of mine is a copper down south working in child protection type stuff. I couldn't cope with seeing the things that he sees every day. It's changed him completely. He used to be a life and soul of the party type of bloke and now he's an entirely different person. Someone has to do what he does and I admire him for doing it but I wouldn't want to do it myself.

got accepted for one of the specialist services (not home office) 15years ago and would have been armed straight after training. But as said above the starting wage was an issue. I was prepared to take the hit at the start but I had to wait 6 months for a posting and by the time that came around i was on substantially more than what was offered and they wanted me to move to the other end of the country without any assistance funding so told them no.

my Brother has been in for years now, never looked back although some of the stories he has told me as an AFO make me think I dodged a bullet (no pun intended)

From the recent news article it looks like recruitment for AFOs is at an all time low... I know the MET are struggling and I have heard Cleveland are too.
