Could you be a Copper?

Nope..
I appreciate that it's a dogs job in many aspects now in 2024.
Your now a 'first responder ' so , because of lack of public service funding for the last 13 years , as likely to be first on the scene at a medical emergency as a criminal one .
The amount of public service trauma you are likely to witness to, without adequate support is not healthy
The wage structure is not attractive to anyone other than newly qualified graduates.
It probably would of been an ideal career for me to get into late 90's / early 2000s in lots of ways, with a social justice and do good hat on.

But

I'm still Teesside based , and a lot of friends and family would of no longer trust me , and likely me not them .
' never off duty ' works all ways ..

I've had terrible experiences, including unlawful on paper, and their cheque book , from their own admission, from Cleveland Police.
It is not a force with esteemed leadership is it ?

And the whole " who do you first call ,if your car is broken into ? "
It's a crime number , for insurance purpose 95 times out of 100 .. ring doorbells offer more assistance than forensics nowadays.

Been an AFO for almost 20 years now. No idea why I am still doing it, the pay is way less than I could get in private sector (I continued to study in my spare time) and most of the people up top have been promoted way beyond their ability.

Who would want to be or want their son or daughter to be a copper in Middlesborough after watching that tonight. Every cell full of people off their face on God knows what - violent angry with no hope or rehabilitation and rinse and repeat every day. What a God awful depressed and deprived lost and broken hopeless society we have created. There is some comfort in being ignorant of what on earth is going on right under our noses but if things don’t change we won’t be able to ignore it for much longer.
Or absolutly proud that your son or daughter standing up to serve their community and give something back instead of me me me?
