Could somebody tell me why Grabham wasn't flagged offside?

Shot hit Boro defender but surely he was already offside by then from initial shot.
Arm across keeper and looking at keeper at same time would also be given as a foul 9 times out of 10.
It is called obstruction.

Haven’t seen the replays but I thought foul straight away in the ground - need a bit of luck going our way soon !

Was never a foul and my understanding of the offside rule is if it hits opposition player it’s change of phase

He looks to be onside to me when the original shot is struck. IMG_20200303_092538.png

Incidentally, it doesn't affect the determination of offside if the ball deflects or rebounds off an opponent, only if they play it deliberately.

I think you need to give some credit to Grabbam really. It's easy to blame Pears, but if you watch it, Grabbam takes a quick look at Pears and then pins him and protects the ball like a good centre forward does against a centre half. Look then where the ball comes down, it's not within the keeper's reach. He would have had to push Grabbam out the way and risk giving a pen.

Grabbam was very lucky with his touch mind, the way it spun away from defenders and into the net.

Onside, both players made as much contact with each other. Could have been a pen. Would have been a soft one, but would have been a soft fk to us.

I reckon if Pears had jumped, and then Grabban makes the same amount of contact, Pears probably gets a FK as it “looks” worse

One of those things. Where was the defender in to shield the GK. not one individual fault, give forward credit

In real time I thought Pears was fouled. He was not, having seen the replays. The club officials, having seen the replays, yet seem to insist the referee gives a foul 9/10 times. I think the defenders were, not for the first time, guilty of ball watching instead of protecting the goal, the above picture proves it for me. It was a real kick in the teeth as we had defended well. However, this infers poor concentration and our game management could and should be better. There are too many times in games we look like we are all at sea defensively when any sustained pressure is applied. Back to basics, composure and protect the goal. Also, Why on corners do we not have men on the posts these days?

If Pears tried to punch it he would have won the free kick. Instead he tried to tackle him and there's no way that would be given against a centre back so not sure why it would against a keeper.

I think it was a foul all day long because Grabban raised his arm and backed into Pears to gain an advantage. He moved his body, he didn’t just shield the ball.

You cant compare Pears to a defender because a goalkeeper does not operate like a defender, he will have been trying to get his hands to the ball, somebody like Shotton would have crowded Grabban out by easing him forwards.

Could you imagine Britt or Gestede getting away with that at the other end with their goalkeeper? Absolutely no chance, and I mean no chance, but that’s the state of refereeing I’m afraid where marginal decisions can be used by the refs to change the outcome.

Robbed again I’m afraid but we would all have taken a point before the match.

interesting that you blame the ref, and he's a cheat, when even on this board opinion is split. so the refs only right when he agrees with you?

Foul for me.

But Pears should have done much better regardless of Grabban attempting to block his arms off.

As a defensive unit were a completely different proposition with Ayala out of the side. Have we kept a clean sheet without him?

Still not to worry, Gibson tells us it'll be good news that his wages will be off the books at the end of the season. Exciting times.

No way was it a foul. Grabban was shielding the ball. If he’d done it to an outfield player or anywhere else on the pitch we wouldn’t have batted an eyelid. We should be mor concerned that we let them have so much of the play in the last twenty minutes to allow them to score rather than the moment itself.

A goalkeeper isn't an outfield player.
When you need your arms to do your job, somebody pinning your arms down is a foul.

Pears could have dealt with it better, but Grabban knew exactly what he was doing.
