Cost of Living pay rises

We normally get a cost of living eg inflation plus something for personal performance . It normally averages anout 3% especially due to inflation being very low in recent years . I’m assuming the company will come up with some reason why inflation at the moment is spikey, too early to judge etc etc and we’ll get the same average of about 3%.

I've always thought pay rises to match inflation should be automatic, across all industries and sectors, every year unless the employer wants to argue the toss in a tribunal. Same as how minimum wage goes up incrementally every year.

So if inflation is 2% your wages automatically go up 2%, and any real pay rise is on top of that.

After all, it's a pay cut. Most people wouldn't stand for that. I've argued this out with a few employers.

There's a policy Labour could run on.
They did in 1974, it was called the Social Contract, which morphed into Social Contract 2. Companies could only put their prices up by the percentage pay rise offered to workers and workers could only request a percentage to match a price rise companies made. I realise that I've put it in quite simplistic terms, but that's basically what it was. It was an agreement signed by the Government and the TUC and enforced by the Government.

What's interesting with all the rise in gas and electricity prices is will there there any further work from home subsidies. if not then i think if you work from home then your employer should at the least compensate you for your increased operating costs
The work from home subsidy for me is that I don't have to go to work; petrol, insurance, even owning a car, work attire, travel time, eating food at a work canteen, constant collections going around etc. My energy bills could triple and it would still be cheaper for me to work from home and I have much more of my day available to me as no time spent in traffic. Employers benefit by having employees work at home, but employees benefit massively. I've been working from home since 2016 and I think I would hate going back into the office day to day needlessly

Our office is now a hub and you can book a desk to go and work at, but teams don't have set areas and you need to book them every day. because we have offices around the country, any face to face meeting you book is more complex because some will still be remote so you need to dial them in via teams still, so its easier if everyone is remote and using the same teams interface rather than having 6 people in a room, and 8 on teams and having to make sure everyone can see and hear etc

Partner got rid of her car and uses mine for her work. I thought I'd miss it or it would be a huge inconvenience but hasn't been a problem and saved thousands. I don't even have my own insurance policy anymore, am just a named driver on hers.

I'm fairly certain that there was an article last week about them being reduced or eligibility changed as too many people are now claiming them due to working from home.

In that article it says "In the year from 1 March 2020, Mr Bailey was paid £575,538 including pension." hmmmm

At the end of every year I increase our costs to clients in line with RPI and on the back of that I give all of my staff an RPI increase plus a bonus of 3% of their gross salary.
Wouldn't that mean your margin is decreasing year on year?
