Cook Islands v Tonga RLWorld Cup

Enjoyed RL since visiting family in Aus a few years ago and been to see York City Knights a few times since.

Got my tickets pre-covid when they were £25 which I thought was fair, sad to see current prices putting people off.

I suppose, given the rider "current form", you might just be able to make a case for Tonga being the 2nd best team in the world at the moment, but they're really not - Aus, NZ, England, Fiji and then probably Tonga is a more realistic standing, though I see Aus have sent over a young and inexperienced team - they'll still win it though

Must admit I completely forgot about this, had England tix at Bramall Lane pre-covid but I'm in Denmark watching Pavement that weekend now.

Might get some tickets for some group games though

Really not? Not sure what that means. Historically yes but not now which is more important. Tonga will beat England and Fiji on present form. No question.

Sorry when I said token game I wasn’t referring to the calibre of sides I mean it’s one game how many tournaments have you ever seen where a town stadium only gets one game.

Oh and if you think the Cook Islands are there to make up the numbers look at what they achieved in their last two big internationals

I was quite impressed by that until I realised it means they beat two even worse teams 3 yrs ago.
They've only played once since then as far as I can see - a 42-22 defeat to Samoa.

I think they are there to make up the numbers.
But to be fair, so are at least 12 other teams in all probability.

Rugby League is something I'd probably enjoy if it was more widespread.

It's very niche though, even in England.

Cricket is bad enough with the limited spread of countries, but at least the subcontinent makes up a quarter of the world's population.

The only country in the world which has rugby league as it’s national sport is Papua New Guinea.

Go the Cook Islanders - a wonderful place to visit. Public transport is excellent, you can get the clockwise or anticlockwise bus depending on how long you want to take to get anywhere :)

Yep, been three times. Its an awsome place. Spent most of our time in atiu but got my SCUBA ticket on Raro.

have got tickets for this £25 in south west corner same tickets are £30 to watch boro.

Prefer Union but its a world cup tournament event (even if only 1 game) in our area so good to be part of it.

Was in Atiu and Rarotonga in May. Agree. Great place to go. People suffered badly when we couldn’t fly there last year. They badly need our business. @Soutra yes you are correct RL is the most popular sport there albeit it was only introduced in the 60s. Cricket though seemed to be an obsession there when we were over earlier in the year.

Am going to the local launch this afternoon.
I will be helping to give some of the Cook Island players a museum tour on James Cook birthday and there are going to be lots of gifts and pen friends set up between Cook Island schools and local schools in Marton. A really nice idea, KI think, Cook Islands were really keen on this. It could sow the seeds for links along the lines of those that we still have with N Korea since 1966 World Cup. That would be a lasting legacy.
