Contact lens advice please

How do you mean stay on, it was falling off?
Yeah. Whenever I took my finger to my eye it just fell off. The left eye one stayed on my finger until I could set it on my eye. Everything I tried with the right hand just failed. The lens would fall off when I got close to my eye

I posted re Monthly Varifocals. I pay £23/m with Boots Reward Scheme, all in. Fair point re if you loose one but Boots allow for this and will supply 2/3 extra pairs free if you ask so I always have spares. Been using this type for 10 years + and I have never taken out for pool/bath/shower etc. I take them out once or twice a month, quick dunk in fluid and back in.
You definitely should be taking then out, your eyes are coming into contact with impure water - physical particles and bacteria can then get trapped between your eye and the lens. The only ones I’ve seen info say it’s potentially fine is daily disposables, but even then it’s recommended for quick showers only

I managed a lady in my old role who wore them in a pool on holiday and ended up with an abscess on her eye. It was awful looking

In fact any kind of water from hot tubs to showers or even tap water should never come into contact with contact lenses. This is because water carries microscopic amounts of tiny organisms called Acanthamoeba, a bacterium which gets trapped under contact lenses and can cause serious eye infections, even blindness.

Never really had that before to be honest! You could always tilt your head forward a little so your finger doesn’t go vertical

I presume they showed you how to tell if it’s inside out or not?

Yeah I got told about the inside out test. It’s really weird that I can do it with one eye and not the other. Although because of quote a difference in prescription it looks like the lens are both made out of different materials. Maybe it’s the material of the right lens that’s not as sticky? I’ll do some research

When I started with lenses, I found it easier to make sure my fingers were dry, not wet. Then use my left hand to put the lens on my tip right middle finger. Pull the inside of eyelid down, look upwards and stick the lens in partly over the iris and the white at the bottom of your eye. Then you'll blink, so keep the eyelid shut for a few seconds and the lens should centre itself. Use you finger tip to centre it if you need.

If I go swimming I take the lenses out for no other reason than they can float out. It is more hygienic to remove them as well.

And two weekly lenses or monthlies are far easier to manipulate than daily lenses. Dailies are very flimsy and hard to work with for someone new to lenses. When you get used to them, by all means switch to dailies.

Don’t believe this clown,( Smalltown) would you go to a football forum or the firm that either gave you the prescription or sold him the lenses, smalltown is an attention seeking nutcase.

Thanks for the advice. I do find the dailies quite hard to manipulate. I think maybe I need to dry my hand a bit more. It was really weird because when trying it out in the opticians the lens always stayed stuck to my finger as I was sticking it in. no idea why it wasn't working today.

Edit: a few intense searches have also suggested making sure the finger is dry. Thanks for the advice @Soutra much appreciated. As you know starting using contact lens is a bit frustrating whilst you get used to it!

OK so this is incredibly frustrating. I still can't get the right lens to stick to my finger. I know if I can do that, and actually manage to get the lens into the eye, I'll be able to practice putting it in. But it literally falls off the finger everything I get it close to the eye.

Anyone else had this?

I'm wondering if I can try a different type of lens.

I would try a different lens, I’ve never had one fall off my finger in the years I’ve been wearing them
Yeah, not a single person I've asked has had this problem. it's also weird that the right lens is incredibly thick compared to the left. If anything I would have thought it would be the other way round as my left prescription is quite a bit stronger than my right.

I got my trial lenses this week. Single vision Cooper lenses. I’ve got month long ones. My left eye has a really strong prescription so the lens is quite easy to feel. My right eye isn’t too bad so the lens is super fine and I’m really struggling to get it out of the container, put it in my eye and remove it. I’m ok getting them in, after about 3 attempts, wearing them is fine ( although the prescription is slightly off) , but I’m struggling when taking them out. I find it difficult pinching them and feeling them. Especially the thinner lens. On my last fitment, I was convinced it wasn’t even in, and I’d dropped and lost it!! So trying to remove a lens I was convinced wasn’t there was a strange experience. Eventually I got it out. I’m gonna practice some more over the weekend. At the minute it’s taking about 10 minutes to install, and 20 minutes to remove.
On the whole I’m happy wearing them. I just need to perfect my technique. Using my middle finger to install is definitely the way to go as you can pull the lower eye lid down with your index finger.

See that's how I was expecting it to be: my stronger prescription being the thicker lens but it isn't.

I hope I can get to your stage. I know for a fact as soon as I can actually get the lens near the eye I'll be able to work on my technique (it takes me about 20 mins to get the left lens in at the moment, it's only the right that I can't do). It's just frustrating I can't get to that point. Keep at it and within a month you'll probably be able to do it with out thinking.

I don’t pinch them on my eye, I just put my finger on it and lightly pull down. It pushes slightly against the eyelid and curls up and removed easily, 5 second job

That sounds a good technique. I’ll try that this evening. I’m not wearing them for work at the mo. I’m putting them in after work and removing at bed time, so I’m not rushing against the clock. I’m using a magnified make-up mirror so I can see what I’m doing.
I got my trial from Eye Deal at the One Life centre on Linthorpe Road. I’m very impressed with Matt the optician and he explains everything really clearly and slowly. I would highly recommend going to see him

I had a night out last night and wore my contacts all evening. Slept in them overnight and woke up fine. Bit of crustiness around the eyes but I was told that’s to be expected. All good this morning so I’ll give it a go removing them, washing and refitting them . Happy so far.

After a week of trialing my single vision lenses, I’m quite confident at removing and putting them back in. I’ve got monthly lenses by Coopervision.
The only drawback is I’m finding them a bit irritating. My eyes are comfortable but they are watering a bit. On a morning my eyes are a bit crusty and during the day it sometimes a bit itchy, like I have hay fever. Again, watery eyes.
Im allso not sure about the 2 different lenses being at separate focal distances . Although I can go from reading my phone, to looking up at the TV, I am aware that my right eye is blurry when on my phone, and my left eye is blurry on the TV.
